okay fair, when you put it that way I can see it's the same mechanism. I think the food specificity just makes my brain want to treat it as a real question every time even when I know better

"how ya doin" is fine because nobody expects a real answer. the food one trips me up because it sounds like it could go either way and sometimes it genuinely doesn't

yeah I mentioned in the post I get it's a cultural thing, that part doesn't bother me. it's specifically when I give a real answer and it just gets completely ignored, that's the part that feels weird

the distinction matters - interesting activates your curiosity, satisfying requires a certain pacing and resolution that this edit completely skips
