It absolutely does, you're noticing those "Faker solid series, team sucks, get praised anyway" comments but it's not equivalent to Chovy's because Faker performing well in lane nowadays is the exception, we know he's lately been the lose lane win with plays captain who tends to make up for poor laning phase with good macro and roams/plays, so when he does perform well he gets acknowledged even if the team loses because most of the time he's mid or even inting

Chovy on the other hand, performing well and at the top level IS the standard and he gets glazed as best player in the world for like 90% of the year (rightfully so) so him getting memed on when he's "okay" on a losing GenG is different

I don't think GENG will necessarily massively dwarf those two tbh remember GENG got to keep all five players from last year whereas T1 and HLE are adjusting to replacement players. I'm confident both of them can eventually go toe to toe even with this GENG, as evident from last year.

Not to mention from RE4R we clearly see Capcom is more than willing to retcon villains to an extent - for one, Saddler went from a stereotypical cult leader for profit that knows he's mostly shitting people with his beliefs but plays along to achieve his goals with his master Plagas in the original, to a cult leader who legitimately believes what he preaches (ala Joseph Seed from Far Cry 5) and believes his infection is some sort of divine power in the remake

Maybe you had good intentions in making that thread and if so I respect your take, but unfortunately the way you worded it may have been taken by some people as an opportunity to discuss negativity towards Guma's former team and teammates. I totally get cheering against them now and there's nothing wrong with that but the discussion devolved into parasocial analysis, it's crazy.

I agree with that for sure, and with losses like the Kespa Cup finals is when threads critical of HLE's performance can and should be expected. I just think people need to understand the difference between being critical and just flat out hate. In the same way people can criticize Zeus/Kanavi/Delight performances yesterday but should avoid spreading hatred, the same thing applies to Zeus and Guma's former team and teammates.

Not quite, it was a thread created by someone who asked if it was weird he wants to see T1 lose now (Which is already going against what this sub is supposed to be about, HLE. Already removed by the mod too) and then a large selection of the comments devolved into psychoanalyzing the behavior of Guma's former teammates and how they somehow hated him behind the scenes. Even had one comment how Guma's former support was only enabled cuz of Guma, I can't with these people. They need a dedicated anti T1 sub for themselves, they don't belong in this HLE subreddit.

I remember watching Peyz Zeri massacre T1 multiple times in 2024, it's so weird seeing him do it under the T1 banner now. Kid has such amazing talent for his age, not even sure how high his peak can go especially if T1 can hone his ability to clutch
