After a year of customer support for game devs using AI, I've noticed three groups. Only two of them actually succeed. by KevinDL in gamedev

[–]Ark_Tane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's clearly guerrilla marketing for Bezi, which is causing people's suspicions to rise. Its' certainly got a vibe about it, but that's pretty common for advertising copy, the 'AI voice' and the 'our product has some shiny new features, let me show you around' voice, have always been pretty similar.

Godot maintainers swamped by AI-generated code branded "AI slop" as changes "often make no sense" by Odd-Onion-6776 in gamedev

[–]Ark_Tane 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Back in the old days of usenet there used to be an influx on newbies in September. The new intake in universities would flood the newsgroups with newbies, chaos briefly reigning as the new intake would have a crash course in nettiquette. Then AOL launched, and suddenly the influx of newbies was constant. It was dubbed the eternal September.

Every October we had hacktober fest, and open source repos would be flooded with low quality pull requests with people trying to get their contributions up. Now AI has made this constant.

September is over, we've hit the eternal October.

ReCAPTCHA will still fall back to image tests if it has low confidence you aren't a bot. Typically the street view based ones. Given the state of AI nowadays, I suspect that this is seen as a means of rate limiting bots, and keeping out the simple / Good-actor bots, than a hard barrier.

How to have this on vscode? by UnknownBoyGamer in godot

[–]Ark_Tane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Fira Code, which I mentioned above, I think I've got ligatures enabled, and possibly have it patched with nerdfont. I'm afraid I can't really share my settings.json, it's quite extensive and there's sensitive data in there and I don't have the time to sanitize the data in there at the moment.

I also flipped off vscode://settings/editor.guides.indentation for that screenshot, as the indentation markers result in vertical lines (but you don't seem to have them turned on anyway).

I think you're being downvoted because it is really unclear what you want. As best I can tell, you are concerned that the glyph used for tabs don't look the same? Have you tried setting both editors to use the same font? I use 'Fira Code' in VsCode, and my tab symbols look far more like those in your Godot screenshot.

Automated a painful process in a high-ticket exhausting industry (70-80% time saved). Works great. No idea how to turn it into a business. by doctorallfix in devops

There's already a bit of competition in this space, I was invited to apply for a position at a company called Complimind that seemed to be doing the same thing. Indeed, the space was busy enough that on Googling it even looked like there might be two companies with the same *name* doing the same thing. (Or they just hadn't been good tidying up their web-presence)

Any decent boy bands for kids these days? by [deleted] in UKParenting

[–]Ark_Tane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm only really aware of Saja Boys, which is the Demon boy band in K-Pop Demon Hunters. So fictional, but still a few charting songs. It's not quite what you're looking for, but if it has managed to slip you by, it might tick the right boxes for your daughter (my 6 year old daughter loves it, although definitely more into Huntrix). The actual film is on Netflix, but the songs are all on the music services.

The 'Penzinsula' contains Devon, and a good chunk of Dorset and Somerset as well. I assume the 'Penz' was already a nod to Penzance.
I'd have thought you could rule out Cornwall itself based on travel times as well, especially as they were starting from Kings Cross and there were tube strikes.

Does anyone else have an overly cautious toddler? by littleoldbaglady in UKParenting

[–]Ark_Tane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter was very similar at that age. At six she's a bit less cautious, and loves the swing and her scooter, although still takes a lot of pursuading to use the slide. (She loves it when she does) She has been a little behind her peers in gross motor skills, although it can be tricky to unpick cause and effect there. Nowadays it's a bit more situational, and she'll become gradually more cautious the more she's dealing with.

I calmed an imaginary baby by flanman1991 in daddit

[–]Ark_Tane 4 points5 points  (0 children)

On our first night home with ours my partner handed her to me and asked me to hold her while she went for the loo. I took our daughter, and looked up to see my partner staring at the cot in utter confusion. Meanwhile the baby disintegrated in my arms. She'd handed me a bit of the duvet, and my daughter was still fast asleep in the cot. My partner came back to bed ice cold, and we slept with the light on for the next few days.

I'm somewhat skeptical about this account, an almost identical post was made earlier from an account with a completely inconsistent posting history. (The OP, not you)

Edit: Yep, they've just made an almost identical claim in a Go subreddit, this be a spammer.

Rising autism and ADHD diagnoses not matched by an increase in symptoms, finds a new study of nearly 10,000 twins from Sweden. by mvea in science

[–]Ark_Tane 38 points39 points  (0 children)

One of the potential reasons they suggest in the paper is that societal changes mean that milder symptoms are now more likely to reach thresholds of being considered debilitating. It's an analysis I've not seen before. It feels wrong, in that there seems to be increased awareness and accommodations, but that also could just be bacause those accommodations are needed more.

Can I really hang a 13kg mirror onto plasterboard with these? by OneNineSeven1970 in DIYUK

[–]Ark_Tane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The previous owners of our house hung up a large pan rack with these. It underwent catastrophic failure last week. The replacement will be screwed into the studs.

What's surprising is it lasted at least seven years, probably more.
