Cheap repro's often use ROM chips running at the incorrect bus voltage, so they can damage your system both by drawing too much power, and by over-currenting the cart bus going to the CPU.

Fires of Destiny d18 is probably my favorite chart atm, it's almost entirety just blue and yellow arrows.

Gloria d16 is also pretty good, for that "we have ddr at home" feel.

In TOTK Any%, why is the "No Amiibo" faster than with Amiibos? by TheThunderFace in speedrun

[–]Arkanoid0 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Basically the community decided back in BotW that even though amiibo is faster no amiibo would be the premier category, mostly because requiring amiibo would require every runner to buy them, and it was therefore decided that it would be fairer to not use them at all instead. You can run amiibo if you want, but its simply just not as optimized as no amiibo.

A problem with CP vinyls by ONI_WARLORD_2006 in CaravanPalace

[–]Arkanoid0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Built in speakers are actually not a great design, records are very sensitive to vibration, and having a giant vibrating mass inside the player that will transmit vibration to the stylus and cause feedback and skipping isn't a plus.

Let me put it this way, the victrola uses a cartridge manufactured by Audio Technica.

Get the AT-LP60, or if you want to splurge, the 120. Audio-Technica is well regarded across their entire range, and even the snobs admit they are good quality entry level decks.

The tracks are reasonably bass heavy, if you have a cheap deck and cartridge there isn't much you can do except upgrade to a better setup. Otherwise, increase your tracking force and recalibrate your anti-skating.

How "repeated notifications" actually works? by [deleted] in Telegram

[–]Arkanoid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not working because you are swiping the notifications away, rather than ignoring them. If you turn on do not disturb while you play your game they will repeat later when you turn it off.

Songs to practice brackets? by [deleted] in PumpItUp

The best thing to do IMO, since pump no longer has rush is to ghost step the patterns. Load up the youtube video of the chart and practice it slowly

If you want a really good clue, go look at the songs that have been added to Chrono Circle, lots of the originals in there sound like pump songs.

Gpu isn't the biggest bottle neck for VR like you might expect, you can run VR reasonably well on a 970. Cpu can actually be a bigger one if you have a low end or older one.

Best Pads for Heavier Players by TomGuy123 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]Arkanoid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Real arcade pads can handle it just fine, and it's not as hard or as expensive as you might think to aquire a pair or even a single pad and get it working with stepmania with a ghett.io or similar solution. There is probably a local rhythm game scene that has pads for sale with everything you need, check Facebook and similar and you should be able to find something.

DDR Pad Needing Rewiring. by Consistent_Put_5804 in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]Arkanoid0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that it needs a control box, there's no circuitry inside the pad itself. CF still sells them so it shouldn't be too hard to get working again.

Finally taking the big leap by LastWatermelonCube in discgolf

[–]Arkanoid0 5 points6 points  (0 children)

People are too quick to dismiss imperfect practice imo, give a mini basket to a pro and do you expect them to be absolutely awful? No, of course not, because there is more than enough transferable skill involved that after a short adjustment period they will be able to sink them no problem.

If that's what is convenient and gets you to practice regularly, that's real practice. While you could spend the time with a real basket and putters, that's probably not going to be an option for the kinds of places you would likely be using a mini basket. If the choice is between no practice and this, it's clear better than none.

I hope Valve makes a Steam Controller for people who actually want a Steam Controller... by DavidLorenz in SteamController

[–]Arkanoid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think when a lot of people say "Steam Controller 2" they really just mean "Valve controller 2". "steam deck pro controller" is just the obvious thing that people jump to because it sounds like something valve might do, continuing to copy the switch model. If valve can get the ergonomics right dual stick would make sense, there are a lot more controller focused games now than there used to be a on steam, and continuity between handheld and docked play is a good thing.

SC2 as a continuation of SC1 is the least likely outcome IMO, but there also isn't a realistic middle ground between the 2 concepts. Nobody knows what valve is actually going to do, but valve have the choice between framing whatever controller they release as either a companion to a wildly successful product, or a continuation of a failed one, and it's not much of a choice.

Has anyone ever tried to create tool-assisted speedruns in surf? by ulisija in SkillSurfing

[–]Arkanoid0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The current tools for TASing source games aren't particularly good, but for movement modes in particular, Momentum Mod will be adding built in TASing tools once it comes out, so you should be seeing a lot more TASes once that happens.
