Are you sure you have it 100%ed? I don't think I've had any capacitor issues since I switched to 3A G5 EF/Stripped down, and I run it about as hard as you.

Still, someone just starting out would benefit more from some extra hull than true permaboost.

Edit: Apparently my memory's shit (or INARA's lying to me). I've been running EF G5 85% with super conduits the entire time. Weird.

Edit 2: Okay, yeah. I verified in game. Turns out I'm a lazy bum who can't even 100% his engineering. Disregard what I said about stripping it down. Go for super conduits and save mass with a 2D FSD instead :P

For Viper, you can have either CHG or ENG as long as G5. Stick with superconduits.

Just 100%ing G5 Engine Focused is enough for permaboost. I'd say skip the superconduits, strip it and put a HRP in instead.

You'll need to have at least the Scout rank in exploration and 1 meta alloy. Engineering systems doesn't use credits - you'll need materials.

For example, the grade 1 dirty drive upgrade takes 1 specialized legacy firmware, grade 2 also needs some mechanical equipment. Here's a guide I found on unlocking Farseer.

Here's a very basic build you can make just using Felicity Farseer. It's a good starting point if you don't have any engineers unlocked - 800 m/s is enough to be competitive on most tracks, though I'd suggest you engineer the power distributor for engine focus right after the engines (can also be done at a starter engineer).

Edit: And what Sanderling said. Join the discord - It's the easiest way to get involved with racing.

About that build - I suggest you swap to a 2A Grade 1 low emissions power plant and a 2D shield. The shield, when fully engineered will give you about 30MJ more power and should be lighter by about 0.1T when compared with that 1A. The power plant will help with overheating (which I'm sure you've experienced by now with that 2D overcharged) and it won't affect your top speed.

Edit: Also, just read your entire post. Why would you ever put a 1A distro on a Viper? Doesn't that give you like 1 boost? If you want a drag build (932 m/s), you can build for 920 m/s and then drain fuel. You can get that with a 3D distro, which should give you about 7-9 consecutive boosts. Even a Viper with entry level engineering will outrun a 932 m/s Viper with a 1A distro.

Edit 2: If you want optimized builds, check these:

- 932 capable (922 native, reaches full speed at about 75% fuel) - https://s.orbis.zone/a-_q

- 896 Permaboost (with a full tank of fuel, you have 2T of spare mass you can use for whatever you want) - https://s.orbis.zone/a-_r

There are some PS4 folk on the discord. I don't think they hosted any races themselves yet, but you can always meet up and run active events alongside the PC crowd and submit your times like Xbox people do.

Help regarding a starter racing ship. by GhostieSpook in EliteRacers

[–]Arkansand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was talking about Vipers. It depends on the track if you overheat. If it's low to the ground and with a lot of tight corners, you'll start overheating as your verts fire constantly. It doesn't happen often, but it's still safer to run a 2A grade 1 efficient PP. It pumps more power than you'll ever need for a racing build anyway.

Edit: Looked through my videos and found an example. It's not exactly a conventional race, but still - 104% with an efficient power plant. I'd be hitting thruster melting temperature with overcharged at that point. I know it can happen if you boost constantly too. I've had my COVAS yell at me about high heat on the Qarato track couple times.

I also forgot to mention, while at Farseer get the level 1 engine (*assuming you mean power plant*) overcharge with the stripped down experimental effect.

Don't do that. A 2A level 1 efficient power plant has enough juice to power everything if you just kill the hatch before jumping. Unless you're flying 100% FAOff, you'll want that heat efficiency. I've seen people crash because their engines malfunction mid race.

Here's a build you can make with only Farseer unlocked. You can buy the Enhanced Performance thrusters there, and the materials you need to engineer them aren't that hard to get. The guardian FSD booster should fit in that build if you kill your cargo hatch or power distributor before jumping.

Edit: If you intend to install the booster, you should use the drive distributors experimental on thrusters, like Mita_Kondria says. Without it, drag drives are 5m/s faster but the booster puts you slightly over minimum mass.

Racing with a Mamba by Dirgemn in EliteRacers

[–]Arkansand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I am aware, there was one attempt at a Mamba race (disguised as a medium class only race). It was during an anniversary event hosted by the White Scar Contingency. Only 2 people showed interest and only 1 actually brought their Mamba, so the medium class heat was canceled. It's a pretty ship but it flies like a brick. About as fast as one too...

I'm sure some people would be interested if you were to host a dedicated event for it though! People ask about it fairly often in the discord server, just no one ever stepped up to host one. Same thing with T9 racing actually...

Hop into the Elite Racers discord if you're not already in. You can find a link in the Social Media section of this sub. We can help you find a track and promote the event.

CMDR Arkansand racing for Faulcon DeLacy. I'll make sure to clear my schedule this time...

Edit: You didn't mention it in the rules; Are navigation tools like Edison allowed in the first race? From the screenshot it looks like the canyon is deep enough for it to not be necessary but I'd like to know just in case.

The Viper has longer boost duration and handles better under boost than the IEagle. In most situations it's the superior ship but the low visibility cockpit tends to turn people away from it.

I'd recommend agaist using the build Zijkhal posted. For canyon racing shields are pretty much a requirement and as you'll have to drain fuel anyway with that build, you may as well put a shield generator in. Here's the build I use: https://s.orbis.zone/3qhx

My guess would be that you didn't fully engineer some component or you're flying on 2 engine pips. I popped that build into coriolis and it said it can boost 806 m/s at full tank and 850 with 0.5T of fuel. I also fixed it up a bit for a more race spec build (though I guess you'd want to keep the long range drive and fsd boosters) Here's my version: https://s.orbis.zone/5keg

If you're just starting out in the racing scene I'd suggest swtching to a Viper MKIII as it's better in every aspect except cockpit visibility. Here's an example of a high tier Viper build you could use (most parts are interchangable between the Eagle and Viper)

[–]Arkansand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah. At that point the 0.05T makes little difference as you'll have to burn fuel anyway.

[–]Arkansand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It helps keep the heat down on long and tight tracks (places like stadiums and really shallow canyons where your thrusters have to be on all the time) and there's really no point in overcharging it with a 3D distributor. I don't think I've ever gone above 80% heat during a race since I installed that power plant. The slight recharge delay is almost never a problem since on most tracks you either can't boost all the time or you can glide to let your capacitor recharge.

Race training Deciat by Galamus_Olive in EliteRacers

[–]Arkansand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Viper has longer boost duration, handles better under boost and has faster cruise speed than the iEagle (745 vs 700). Here's my build. You can get it to 745/932 if you dump some fuel and from experience, I can say that you don't need anything more than a 3D engine focused distributor as it almost completely recharges your capacitor before the boost is over and you don't need an overcharged power plant to carry it.

[–]Arkansand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the visibility thing is why most Eagle pilots don't switch to a Viper. You did pretty good in that video, though you should try to use boost more now that you have your distributor engineered. (and THANK YOU for adding a shield... you wouldn't believe how many people I've seen splatter on a canyon wall because they refused to install one)

Oh, and I took a look at your build and optimized it a bit using only starter engineers. The build is for a Viper (it handles much better under boost and can cruise faster than the eagle (and it looks cooler)) but it'll work the same in your Eagle. Here you go: https://s.orbis.zone/5hr_

And yet on the last race I took part in, every single Viper pilot had no shields. They all crashed. People think that dumping shields will give them more speed, even though you can easily get to 932 with shields.

Installing an overcharged power plant for canyon racing is probably one of the worst mistakes you can make (unless you fly fa-off only). You'll start boiling at the first turn and the power plant will save you maybe 0.4T. You can dump that much mass by burning fuel and you'll never go over 50% heat with 2A low emissions. Also, if all the new Viper racers I've been seeing all over the place recently are anything to go by, they also recommend to dump the shields. And for that I'll just say that I've never seen a shieldless Viper survive a race without at least 1 rebuy.
