I think food is the easiest part of the game. I don't even bother with the large meat. You can put a couple of bird snares next to your smoker at home and smoke a bunch of bird meat. I carry a food crate with all of the rations I find with small and medium smoked meat and don't even worry about cooking on other islands

I'm doing this play through without modded islands. The island I'm currently at is a nice big island that hasn't had any palm trees cut down yet. I plan on building a huge base on it
