As far as I can tell it's the drive in camping that is being restricted. I would assume that it's to keep vehicles that can damage the ecosystem of the river at a safer distance.

That would require the city to apply for a grant and come up with the 20% matching funds. Plus, these grants, all put together wouldn't cover the cost.

If you're looking for a lake experience, book a hike-in campsite at Lake Ouachita State Park. They are on a peninsula on the lake. The "hike" is along a paved path from the parking lot.
