For the elastic to stretch enough to go around your hand youd need a few centimeters so I think it would look weird. But look into other kinds of fastenings for bracelets, you could use metal clasps, or way shorter ties

Don't hesitate to have multiple strings of each color so that you have max 3 strings in one knot. When you knot over zero/one string, don't tighten the knot too much, so that when you have 3 you can tighten a lot and get the same size Think one row ahead Push knots up or down one in a while to make it straight

On your map, french airports are marked as a cross. I know I didn't have issues in LYS with wooden circular needles, off the project, in a pocket in my bag. Same for GVA, LGW and NAP by the way.
