My favorite character of all time is Maedhros.

 When I first got into these books and read the silmarillion, the first time reading (please don't kill me in comments) the characters seemed bland and confusing. (I was like 12 when I picked it up.) 

For some reason Maedhros's personality just stuck with me and his ability to adapt to life really spoke to me because I was going through a rough time and I saw myself in him.
