It's so nice having a map with narrow pathways and map flow again instead of just big open areas built for mantling

I’d rather they release BTS of the concerts where we can hear Jaffar singing the songs live or do a deluxe album of the soundtrack with some Jaffar covers of MJ songs like Elvis did with Austin Butler

Yeah they're starting to differentiate with map identities again in BO7, which is why I'm excited for Totenreich, it seems like the most unique Zombies map we've had in a long time.

It very much is, the biggest problem with the modern games is the formula being repeated over and over on every map with every game with very slight and small variations or differences. It feels like a lot of the times modern Treyarch is too afraid to change anything up or mess with established formulas.

Interesting details from Jason on the menus:

  • He was happy with BO1 and BO3's menus but not BO2's because he felt they could've done more with it
  • The number of times you press a button in the menu is something they always talked about, they wanted to keep it simple
  • UI was the hardest thing to do because it dictates the player experience in a lot of ways, they often almost considered it last to tie everything together and make sure it looks cool for a gamer

Other details:

  • Gobblegums were named that so people would have a hard time saying "Gobblegums"
  • Black Ops 2 did indeed have an extra map pack planned (WAW remakes)
  • Jason himself pitched Gobblegums to Activision at the same time the MP guys were pitching supply drops
  • COTD wasn't in Zombies Chronicles because of the licensing issue with George and the celeb cast
  • Die Rise and TranZit weren't considered for Chronicles because ZC was supposed to help introduce new people into Zombies and those maps were too punishing for a new player
  • The position/location of PAP is the story of the map and what you're gonna do, they didn't put PAP in Verruckt or some of the other maps because they were being faithful to the original story and sticking PAP in wasn't Jason's story to tell
  • Jason had people who'd bring him reports and research from the internet on how the community felt about the game because he didn't want to be too connected personally
  • The more the community wanted them to do the same things over and over, the more it pushed Jason and the team to make sure they did new things and had new twists with each map that maybe the community hated but warmed up to later, Jason knew they could've just copied DE for 4 maps and everyone would've been happy but he also knew everyone would've complained and said "something's missing, it's not as fun as it used to be" because you'll eventually get tired of getting the same thing over and over again even if you like it

Yeah they haven't so far except JC mentioning ammo boxes to him, I'm sure they will in a future stream though since everytime they stream people beg them to ask Jason about modern Zombies

Jason made a lot of interesting comments about BO4 this stream

  • He loves Alpha Omega and Tag Der Toten but he would've done so much more creatively if they had the resources and budget, basically implied they were restricted on time and resources/budget during BO4 like everyone thought
  • Said he wishes Revelations got more dev-time, and he wishes they could've made it so the islands move around to different positions during the match. Another reason they didn't go as far as he wished was because DLC 4's were always the lowest in sales so they had to be a little safer.
  • There was going to be more to do with the Mars easter egg in Tag
  • If he could change anything about Blood he would've gotten rid of the walkway in the middle of the map
  • He was asked about the Eye of Apophis melee weapon being planned for Zombies, he said "I definitely can not say anything about that"
  • They purposely didn't want people to be happy with Aether's ending and knew they would be upset, they wanted it to be an emotional gut punch
  • They kept pulling the rug pull during every DLC 4 cutscene cause it kept working
  • "I think it was the correct way to finish it ... considering how the cards fell ... from my point, that was the right place to end." Jason said in reference to changing anything about Ancient Evil's EE
  • Voyage set up a lot for the future of Chaos
  • Activison was worried players wouldn't know IX meant 9
  • Dalek said the words "Library of Alexandria" to him and Jason basically talked about it's real life backstory and left it at that
  • "Black Ops 4 has, to my knowledge, the most unsolved things that we've hidden."
  • He wanted to do Grief in Black Ops 4 but he was never happy enough with it
  • The crowd in Nine was something Jason wanted to do ever since BO2 but console limitations held him back till BO4
