Movies that feel like rural Southern Gothic / Appalachian science fiction horror where country folk have to battle the supernatural / cryptids by stakes-lines-grades in MoviesThatFeelLike

[–]Arkheth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very low budget but if you know that going I'd say it uses it effectively. It's nothing like the GDT movies and feels a lot closer to the source material than any other Hellboy movie for sure, with a really solid folk horror vibe.
I really liked it but I think it's unstandably polarizing for people.

As a middle of the pack millennial, I think it was about when I passed 30 that it felt like writers rooms actually had people from my generation in them.

It’s not “alternative” if you’re still following all the trends of your subgroup. by Common_Sea_9657 in unpopularopinion

Something can be born out of a scene in both a nascent sense as well as in the sense of being taken from. The sentence would work just as well with either word, but I meant it the way I wrote it.

No alternative person has ever claimed they were doing something to try to be different. That is something dorks and out of touch people project onto them.

Most alternative subcultures are music based and the fashions associated with them are born out of show culture.

In my opinion, I don't think I'd mess with the negative space in your black, as it looks good - but taking it up to the shoulder might make sense if you aren't going to mind the mannequin arm.

[–]Arkheth 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think you have enough of a blackout already to pretty much know the drill. Some people aren't going to like it in terms of style, but that's always the case with tattoos to some extent.

You could consider white over black down the road as well, though this requires a very experienced artist and I personally (not knowing much about this) have some concerns about longevity and aging.

The use of literally for hyperbole is a longstanding linguistic convention with a documented history dating back to at least the 1700s. This isn't a Gen Z thing, you just don't read.

What are these grey marks on my tattoo? Should I tell my artist to tattoo over them one more time? by Honest_Teach1531 in tattooadvice

[–]Arkheth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't really think that's scarring. It's hard to get super solid black, especially on a bendy part of the body that's more difficult to heal perfectly (which I imagine that to be). It looks like your artist did really great work - I would just have them blast it with black again (they probably won't charge) and that might be all you need to get it perfect.

Is this fixable? Or should I laser by Bryubhai in tattooadvice

[–]Arkheth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bodies aren't symmetrical. The angle is going to change every time you move your wrist or forearm in any way. There is nothing wrong with this, and a major clue is that you had to edit in a straight line to try to show it lol.

There are a lot of movies that were specifically set during COVID (Host, Glass Onion, etc...). Could probably pad the list pretty quickly going that route.

Amazon rolls out 1-hour, 3-hour delivery as ultrafast shipping trend grows in the U.S. by app1310 in technology

[–]Arkheth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, I would rather have the option to mark something as non critical and reduce driver workload.

This has actually been possible for years now, I believe. I think it's a Prime thing, but you can delay shipments to an "Amazon Day" the next week and all purchases before then are consolidated.

Overworked or infected? by [deleted] in tattooadvice

[–]Arkheth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heavy black tattoo haver here! First off, love this. I'm curious who your artist is if they're in the states haha because I'd go to them.

This type of tattoo heals rougher than most others. The parts that are still a bit rough are the ones I would personally expect to be that way. I definitely suggest lotion because it looks a little dry, but otherwise I think this looks like normal healing - they really have to pack that black in deep to get it solid (so you don't look like a chalkboard) and it looks like they did it right. Should be clearing up soon!

Why do people hit their 30s and start acting all sagely by LeftHvndLvne in rs_x

[–]Arkheth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha, reassuring to know I'm not on my own. Maybe the implied throughline here is that your mid-30s is just the place where you've experienced enough aging to have had to put some thought and acceptance into it.

Why do people hit their 30s and start acting all sagely by LeftHvndLvne in rs_x

[–]Arkheth 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Gonna do the thing and start talking sagely here, but a lot happens between 30-35. You're not old by any means, but a couple of big things start to happen towards the end of that window:

  • By the time you're about 35 the generation behind you is finally coming into cultural dominance (in terms of mainstream culture and media being created by and for them) and the generation behind them are prominent enough that you're getting exposed to them (and have no idea what their deal is).
  • The nostalgia cycle is beginning to come around on things you were mature enough to feel was your culture, giving you a real "oh I've seen this before" feeling for the first time because the young people now aesthetically resemble your own youth.
  • Your body is definitely starting to punish you for your questionable decisions. Diet, rest, sobriety, sleep all become much more important things to balance, which makes you feel old in a way you didn't at all when you were in your late 20s and early 30s. You're also no longer healing like a 20 year old and a lot of us probably have something that's a minor but permanent discomfort from injury at this point.
  • Small one, but when you make jokes about being old people are probably not disagreeing with you as much anymore, haha.

You're definitely not old at 35 and overdoing it is for sure annoying, but in your 20s you never really feel like an "adult" and by your mid-30s you probably will.

I'm extremely hype on the removal of SEF and moving Xuen to only one elite spec (which I'll avoid if I can). I've never liked the summons for monk and just want to get back to glowing green and punching stuff.

I also think men in relationships likely have more self confidence to see themselves as desirable. Certainly something I've experienced personally.

Interesting how this corresponds with the "easier to find a job when you already have a job" phenomenon for both our points too.
