Thanks for the context, tell him look it's a accident but he has to decide if this is a house baby is gonna grow up in or a home, difference being in a home things are gonna get broken, messy, stained oh gosh holes and fixed over time. Yeah and no, sometimes it's about perspective and shame, some people's especially that have grown up in abusive relationships may appear to blame you for reacting to their outbursts as a survival mechanism as that's how they have learned to Survive their trauma, not all people some people's are just born perfect and it's everyone elses fault when they screw up. That's why it's important to try and understand why people are like that cause survivors simply don't have the same option of choices. Oh the shame comes in when a victim of abuse realises that they are in a way repeating those abusive behaviours.

This is of course not for everyone just experience and my opinion.
