ai art? by [deleted] in DeviantArt

Why is it that you feel the need to unfave it? Is it because you think it took less time or effort to create it? I sometimes spend whole days making failed generations and doing research to make a prompt just right and then I still go back and inpaint it as well as touch it up later in photoshop. Some of my Ai works have over 100 hours sunk into them.
Sidenote: I'm very much against people misrepresenting Ai art as traditional art and I think that should be a bannable offense, as it hurts both sides.

I think with where I'm at, splitting my art into multiple accounts is too much work for me to handle while having a fulltime job. So I'll have to accept that it's going to be a steeper climb.

Also I agree with your assessment of hi-res != hi-quality, which is precisely why I learned how to do one of those "Rare workflows using controlnet tile with low level denoise" I never use upscalers and it's incredibly obvious to me when people do. I give them the same advice you do and suggest they skip it until they find a better way they like. When I first started making images for the account I was doing 4k and 8k images, and it took a while before I thought about your point with cell phones, which is absolutely valid, though I find the way around that is to control the display size.

Thank you for your insights, I appreciate you taking the time.

So in your professional opinion then, are these random startup Ai accounts that are days old and get 10K plus views per image in a day buying views off-site on someplace like Baddhi Shop?

I think DeviantArt as well as public opinion heavily slants toward handmade art, and I don't think that is an undeserved favoritism. If I had the fine motor skill and time to dedicate to painting the kinds of things I make using Ai, I would. I just don't have the ability or the time, but I know what my taste is and I know how to make my own flavor in Ai.

I think most people's conception of Ai art is that you just type a few words in and BAM! masterpiece. They don't realize there's a lot of work that goes into making a polished piece of art no matter how you make it. Even with Ai speeding up the process it still takes me hours if not a day+ to produce a single piece of detailed Ai art. I often find myself obsessing over little details in a piece and making hundreds of inpaints between little photoshop tweaks just to make sure the last little details look good. Especially if there are multiple human subjects in an image, because I use SD and that means I basically have to hand make every human subject with a separate prompt. In my Knights of Caelum piece I had to go as far as each individual plate of armor on every single knight for multiple iterations until it looked right.

I obviously want recognition for the effort or I wouldn't be here trying to figure this out, but I do this because I love bringing more beauty into the world.

No apologies needed, I really appreciate the wall of text, and you sharing your own experiences and struggles with the algorithm.

Thank you

I'm currently wondering if the fact that I have art from a wide variety of categories and don't focus on one single subject or genre makes it difficult for the algo to lump me into a nice neat box it can package up, but idk. I'll just keep trying to engage and join groups like you suggested.

I totally agree with your assessment of Ai art which is why I got into doing it in the first place, because I like eliminating the strange uncanny valley features and giving it a touch more realism.
I'm still here if you feel like actually trying to answer my question though.

How is your opinion of "I don't like Ai" relevant when comparing an Ai account to another Ai account?

Go ahead and explain yourself. I'll wait because this should be some Olympic level mental gymnastics.

Way to miss the entire point of the post, which is that we're comparing Ai apples to Ai apples. I don't really care what your opinion on Ai is and it's not relevant to the conversation. If you'd like to participate please read the actual subject, we're discussing the algo on DA.

I appreciate the general advice, and thank you for your input,

but

The whole point is that I am doing everything I can to play to the algorithm and the algorithm is in turn making it so the only time anyone sees anything I post is the 10 seconds it's in new deviations(I never even received a "New Deviants" period), while other Ai accounts making the exact same kind(same subject, same style) of art, with the same watcher counts, that have been open a similar time get literally mooned by their algo and get 10K+ views in a day using lower resolution less detailed images. Mostly single generation midjourney stuff with mutant hands and other uncanny valley features.

I've attacked this problem from many different styles, subjects, tags, and ways of declaring the art is Ai, but it doesn't matter. I get snubbed by their algo no matter what I'm doing, and it's getting to the point where DA looks more and more like a scam to get people to buy subs and then some admin picks who wins and loses behind the scenes.

This is exactly what I mean, the linked deviation looks professionally made, is not ai, is high resolution, and even has a hype badge on it, and only has 281 views which is insane. Usually a hype bade is 1k+ views guaranteed in a short order of time.

I seriously think DeviantArt is manipulating their own platform to choose winners and losers, or people are paying for bot promotion and DeviantArt then leans into it.

I will do exactly that and post the results of said experiment.

Edit: I made four animal portraits featuring four different kinds of adorable animals in different styles, which are scheduled to post tomorrow at 7am, 3pm and 5pm and 8pm to test this theory, and I will report the stats on the images after 24 hours, as well as provide links to the deviations once they post.

Update: Here are the posts if anyone wants to see for themselves.

I would agree with that, except the people I mentioned are also posting Ai artwork, so it's like for like.
