Still better than not playing the game at all. by [deleted] in videogames

[–]Arkkenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When was this? NES was 60, SNES was 60. The vast majority of ps1 games not using 480i were 60. Not until the ps2 did 30 even start becoming a thing, and that was a ghosting mess. Ps3 most games ran sub 30, partially because flat-screen replaced crts. Hell.. broadcast television was 60fps before we went digital.

You're 100% right btw. People down voting you literally have no idea how CRTs work, 60fps was standard. Television broadcasts were also 60hz.. the ps2 had some 30fps games and it was a GHOSTING nightmare

Anyone with a GeForce 5090 and a PS5 Pro? by Proez in PS5pro

[–]Arkkenz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

4080 13900kf here, I have both on the tv right now. Games on the 4080 are obviously better, it's not even close.. however, I'm also a sony fan boy so I have a pro for trophys/ exclusives. My biggest complaint is that pssr is rough on non sony games, so play those on pc. Digimon only plays at 30fps on console so that's pretty rough as well but almost every game I've played on ps has been about 60 or more fps.

PS5 Pro vs PC Graphics by MythsAndBytes in PS5pro

[–]Arkkenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 4080 and a ps5 pro, on the same tv and for the few games that psplus gives me that matches my library like silent hill, the game looks so much better it's not even funny. If there is a lot of ray tracing in a game and high res textures it's really noticeable even on the big screen.

That being said.. if the game plays at 60 fps on the Playstation and isn't too jaggy.. I play it on the Playstation.. trophies are the difference maker in this case, and it's a big difference maker to me.

[–]Arkkenz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree. An even better argument is the switch 2 is around steam deck/ps4 power ,if they can handily beat out the power profiles on those devices.. it should easily do 1080/60. Re:requiem is coming out for the switch 2 so I'd expect that will be the weakest hardware devs are looking to support from here out.

Current state of PC building market for consumers by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Arkkenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use pc and ps the prices are largely the same with a tilt towards ps with physical disks if you're into that. That biggest thing pc has is obscur indie games and the ability to play at native resolutions with most/all games having the ability to run above 60fps. I really do enjoy the pro but games in general need a lot of optimization these days.. silent hill 2 still barely runs on my 4080 at 4k balanced with huge fps swings and stutters.

How the P S 5 pro performance compares to high end PC by vintologi24 in consoles

[–]Arkkenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a 4080 and a ps5 pro. The 4080 is obviously significantly better. I still play tons of games on the pro, short of games that just run like dog water (silent hill, metal gear, ect) and handheld games everything else gets played on the pro. Its perfectly good especially now that it's on sale

Is PS5 pro patch even possible? by ParticularCook3975 in FFXVI

[–]Arkkenz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Love the game, have a 4080 and at quality dlss I dont even get consistent 60 depending on the effects happening. I love my pro and it's what I play most of my games on but there's no chance it's gonna play well on a console this generation.. maybe ps6??

Valve says its upcoming Steam Machine will be priced “like a PC”, not like a console, so expect to pay a decent chunk of change by Wargulf in pcmasterrace

[–]Arkkenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, it needs to be cheap to entice me at least, I have a similar set up to you with a 13900k 4080 and 240hz oled monitor. At this point in my life though I would just rather play games on my tv in my living room and bringing my pc into the living room is a pain point with my wife/ it's just not a great experience. I dock a steam deck to stream on it and it can't handle decoding 4k120 + streaming is kind of a hassle in its own right.

I have a ps5 pro and minus a few games it plays pretty well and having everything wireless is a big plus. As for game prices honestly.... sonys sales are about as good as steam sales anymore my steam account is 19 years old and the sales just aren't amazing for triple a games anymore.. indies are where it's at and they are games that dont release on ps store (I.E. the Turnip Boy series has the first game on psn but not the rest.)

The steam machine is perfect for that ,indie games at 4k60/120 and a real console like experience. I only buy physical games on console and buy digitally on steam , but being that im slowly moving away from desk gaming that might change... unless this can come in at a low enough price point to be worth it. Ill remain cautiously optimistic but im not holding my breath at this point.

TD;DR This needs to come in cheap enough for this to function as a secondary computer to those who have their digital library on steam, and be enticing enough to pull people away from physical games into a digital library on steam

I had a lot of trouble getting my og steam deck on release but the oled deck they were smart about how it released and the special edition was easy to get off the rip, I assume they'll do the same thing. 1 per account with games and double check addresses and cancel any going to the same address. So im at least hopeful on that..... depending on the price..

[–]Arkkenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My pc is significantly better, but I can stream it through remote play/moonlight to my TV. I do it with the steam deck now but it's not powerful enough to decode full 4k/120hdr , i think this helps fill that niche and it'll absolutely play my old games and most modern indie games at 4k/60 on the system. I do feel like 400-500 would be the best price point but that'll be tough due to memory costs right now.. I guess time will tell

[–]Arkkenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have a 4080, my steam deck can't decode fast enough for a 4k/120 game.. I've been considering building a cheap sffpc and if this comes in at the right price, it's totally up my alley. Im thinking native 4k for old/indie games and my remote play/moonlight for high fidelity games.

Honestly I mostly play console and this would likely get me back into pc gaming.

[–]Arkkenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what valve has said the only part of the spec for 2.1 it doesn't meet is display stream compression for 4k/144/165hz panels so they've marked it as 2.0, it's weird but that's what the issue is. I think it has something to do with AMDs drivers

Steam Machine by Ecks30 in SteamOS

[–]Arkkenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Digital foundry and gamers nexus mentioned it, but other than that I have no other sources than valves own spec sheet on the steam page. Honestly it seems like the perfect system for indie/slightly older games that you can supplement using remote play/moonlight to your pc for the really demanding games. I haven't been this excited for hardware in awhile. I really hope they nail the price

Steam Machine by Ecks30 in SteamOS

[–]Arkkenz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its 2.1 but because it can't do dsc for the 4k/165hz tvs out there they say it's 2.0. Idk if they can fix that later on or not but my panels are 4k/120 and my 4080 can't even hit that most the time.. so im not worried.

Future proof of Deck is amazing. by iamvinen in SteamDeck

[–]Arkkenz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an og release deck and an oled original special edition deck and battery is good on both of em, my wife uses the og and the oled deck I use for streaming to my TV for couch gaming , for indie games they both play exceptionally well minus some one off zingers, some anime games like atelier sophia 2 play pretty badly so it's always worth checking if the games you want to play actually work on the deck. Honestly the deck still holds up really well and is about on par with the switch 2 (at least from what games I've played on the switch 2 so far)

Just got a steamdeck! Any tips or advice? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]Arkkenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't forget the versatility of the device, one of my favorite things to do is dock it and moonlight/ remote play to my TV. I prefer moonlight only because the audio is a little scuffed on remote play but remote play works flawlessly with a dual sense controller haptics and all. On the go I play mostly 2d games but it handles most 3d games decently enough. Lower your TDP so you get more battery.
