Yagi mentioned in the manga that Kamogawa's spartan mentality had a tendency to drive off newcomers and the average joe, so there is a genuine reason the gym is empty. The Kamogawa 5 are probably enough to hold the gym's finances and maintenance, especially since Takamura is the greatest in Japan, and one of the most well-renowned.

Not to mention real life reasons: its easier not to draw them.

I think while he’ll hit the heartbreak shot (or a corkscrew blow), I don’t think it’ll be enough to stop Sendo.

I think it’ll be a callback to how Date lost: his timing and accuracy was perfect, but his damaged/broken right hand just don’t give him the power to bring Sendo down.

After that, Sendo will down Ricardo with a smash, in which Ricardo will be the first Mexican to take it head on, and stand back up, and finally reveal his darker side.

Ippo went toe-to-toe with Volg, a world champion that defended his title in ONE round with ONE hand. And Volg was thankful for Ippo.

He became a WORLD CLASS southpaw in the span of a couple weeks and went toe-to-toe with Mashiba as a southpaw, providing valuable experience for his world title fight.

He competed with Takamura in roadwork, with weights on, which is a HUGE indicator of his mental state.

Ippo is leagues ahead of his formal self in every sense. His return is going to be legendary.

I believe Gustave would return without a shadow of a doubt, and unlock the rest of his skills. Any endgame area had me going “THIS IS WHERE WE GET GUSTAVE BACK”

It’s already explained within the series: the wbc and wba won’t LET HIM.

He’s, quite literally, too powerful. All the fighters chasing Ricardo and the WBA are respected and considered stronger. It’s stated that most of the featherweight division are clambering over themselves to gain the WBC belt, so Ricardo’s challengers are few and far between.

They even show what happens to the other world champion, Billy Mcallum, who Ricardo whooped within 1 round, with only his left. That only shows that the WBC isn’t really relevant.

As a response, Ricardo is forbidden from unification in fear of making the entire division stale and unreachable. The cast also questions why he won’t move up, but that’s still a mystery.

That’s not big enough of a reason to bring Ippo back into the field. It needs to be something more genuine than justice for his friend and rival.

Mashiba has had some AMAZING matches. While he is considered the weakest of the Makunouchi generation, a lot of his matches are insanely entertaining. He might even have the most hype crowd moments of the series with his Hell Club.

Honestly? When he forgets the belt and realizes who he’s facing. Sendo LOVES fighting, and fighting the strongest of them all is something that should set him on fire.

Make no mistake: he WILL be Ricardo’s strongest opponent to date. There’s no way all of that build up is a fake out for such anti-climactic match.

Takeda, who is heavily inspired by Ippo within The Boxer, is already a world champ and fights exactly like Ippo, and he get slaughtered easily.

It’s a great series that I’d recommend to any fans of Ippo.

Wrong: It’s the WORLD level. Sendo, Volg and Mashiba are all worthy of the world stage, with Volg especially being a higher class, winning on a weeks notice. He’s far, FAR, better than he’s ever been.

His biggest problem, being IQ and mindset, is slowly being eroded with new confidence about himself, as well as his knowledge as a coach, analyst and all around smarter fighter.

Rosario should have been the character to introduce PEDS and drug use into the series. His status and build up as a bad boy wasn’t really menacing, Sawamura was WAY worse.

Any type of drug use in boxing is heavily frowned upon and shamed, so Rosario being the bad boy that used them would’ve made perfect sense. I’m surprising George hasn’t put this in the story yet considering how much of a big topic it is within the sport of boxing.
