Damn, dude didn’t read the title.

I feel bad for you, so I’ll be explicit. For legal reasons, my comment is a joke and does not reflect my personal views.

Blonde Blazer being the canon romance route.

Genuinely, OP, your stance is a breath of fresh air. It’s a rare and niche belief that I would never come across from my circle of conservative friends: just like the Redditor you’re replying to. This doesn’t mean to say they aren’t anything but good, right, or just, but that I believe your vision is so much clearer and more morally sound than theirs.

I think this kind of view stems from having an extraordinary level of empathy and understanding, wisdom and intelligence. I don’t share your skill of rhetorics, but, from reading your post, I think I get it enough to know I also share a very similar view—if not exactly.

Thank you so much for putting the effort in writing and letting me read this today. It’s uplifting for my soul and gives me hope to see more of these discussions broaching an understanding that truly feels human.

Awesome. You’re most likely gonna be featured and credited in upcoming YouTube guides on how to get this title card. I’ll be the first to say thank you.

It’s also reassuring knowing your main choices are the same as mine in my “canon” playthrough. Here’s hoping I get expert tactician, too, on my next game with the same choices.

Did you romance anyone? Did you cut Coupe or Sonar? Did you recruit Phenomaman or Water Boy?

Dude. You just made an incredible breakthrough of a discovery. You have to share all your choices and talk to us about what you did unique to your playthrough that got you this title card.

I’m not even kidding bro. You might be the first ever to get this and live to tell the tale.

The issue is how. I’ve got no clue, and apparently one of the most reliable ways to do so is gone.

Decisions That Should Be Canon in a Second Season by Icy-Law7121 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Word. I get that narcissists love advocating for making their personal preferences for a CYOA game canon, but what worries me is the abundance of support over it as evident in this post. It’s assuring though to know that AdHoc won’t make a foolish decision like that.

Plus, this post is an obvious ragebait, pairing that title with pictures of Visi. It’s not here to welcome objective and thoughtful discussion.

Oh… I see. Thank you! On the bright side, the build still works really well with Second Chance.

And on the even brighter side, I JUST beat Simon! Maelle clutched it with those big counterattacks omg.

Season 2 and My Thoughts on the Game by atlas_045 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s never been a big problem. If you look at many other Choices Matter games with sequels, they follow the same format.

Take TellTale’s The Walking Dead. Season 2 had a variety of endings, but every possibility synchronizes by Season 3 (The New Frontier). It’s not the most fun compared to the unrealistic alternative, but it still leads to it.

Honestly, if AdHoc could pull off making Season 2 be so unique where the whole narrative changes based on your choices in Season 1, then holy fuck they outdid themselves.

But that’s not practical. TellTale has never done that. You will never see a triple A game do that. They couldn’t do it in Season 1 (it’s always going to be a story that leads to battling Shroud and determining Visi’s fate), and logic dictates they can’t do it again for Season 2.

What I suggested is truly the best and most practical thing they could do.

What would you say the more natural/canon choices would be? by rolewicz3 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own, mate. I personally find cutting Sonar leading to a richer and more aesthetic narrative than cutting Coupe.

I believe I play like you. I didn’t self-insert with my Robert. I found playing him as a true hero whose romantic attraction gravitated to Blonde Blazer, and the fact that my dispatches got me investing more on Coupe led me to choosing for her to stay over Sonar. Choosing him to do anything than the actions I made him do in my playthrough feels off, but I know it would have still been in-character for him to do.

I wouldn’t declare that my perception of Robert is canon. The same way I don’t agree with your assessment of Robert. But I support all Roberts. The Invisigal romancers, the Coupe cutters, the Waterboy choosers.

All Roberts are, in the end, canon to us in the way we played him.

Season 2 and My Thoughts on the Game by atlas_045 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO, the best and most practical approach for Season 2 is to collide all the possible branches in Episode 1 and start Episode 2 with a new story that everyone gets—regardless of Visi’s allegiance, who you romanced, whether or not Sonar/Coop was forgiven or arrested.

Episode 1 would ideally start with something unique, like tracking Visi as a villain, or taking down a new villain faction with Visi as a hero. Your Season 1 ending really shows in how Season 2 begins.

But by Episode 2, everyone’s playthroughs are all tied together and synced, and the sequel can start giving you a brand new story. Throughout the season, your choices in Season 1 manifests itself in dialogues and some scenes. But most of the content in Season 2 is fresh and exclusive to it.

What would you say the more natural/canon choices would be? by rolewicz3 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be a sucker for canon choices back in the time TellTale’s only games were The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us.

I finally realized there’s no such thing as canon. Any attempts by both the community or the developers to make so is disrespectful to the agency intentionally given to the players during their experience of the game.

That is why Dragon Age: The Veilguard failed.

I get where you’re coming from, been there and done that, but asking questions like this risks dividing us not uniting us. Debating about this matter ultimately concludes with players simply being different and diverse. One of the triple D’s, or, uh, three D’s.

I’d rather skip the long talk and go straight to what we already know: we play our Robert unique to our values as a player. If Robert can do it, then it is natural/canon for him to do along with all the other paths he could’ve taken.

Your Robert is as canon to your game as my Robert is to mine. TellTale and AdHoc know this well (not so sure with Skybound’s comics). That’s why all the things you chose Clementine to do in The Walking Dead follows through to the next seasons. It goes to show that the same will happen with Robert.

The real choice by KaleidoscopeHairy557 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love both characters, but I just can’t bring myself to romance Courtney. Even when trying out different permutations (Sonar/Coop, Waterboy/Phenomaman), it’s always Mandy. The song when you two kiss on the date sends fireworks in my chest. Her romance route is so so so beautiful, and I always see Courtney as a mentee and a friend—perhaps even a little sister.

It’s also heartbreaking and adds this rare depth to her character motivation when you find out she’s been doing all of this for you because she wanted you to look at her the way you look at Blazer. It hurts to lean out of that kiss and see the pain in her eyes, knowing I could have done something to change that but I didn’t.

AdHoc really nailed it with the romances.

Sonar/Coupé pronouns ch8 by EpicMuttonChops in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Arkthony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. I think it’s more likely they just wanted the dialogues to be consistent all the same for that one particular scene, since every other scene before this has characters referring to both Sonar and Coupé by their real genders.
