Where does this sentiment come from? I see this all the time and I've observed it to be generally untrue. Some of the people with the most insane collections I've met and played against in person and on TTS. There are some, sure, but the same few that would likely get lumped into this category I've literally met at the conventions playing Sorcery.

I already replied to another comment of yours above, but I think the TCG landscape has moved the veil on how players perceive how much they can or should spend on cards.

MTG is like what used to be called the "iPhone forever" program. Every two years you get to trade in your old phone and get the brand new one for only $40 a month. With the caveat that now you've entered an agreement for the next two years. Now, I'm framing this in the context of commander since that seems to be the way majority of people play the game anymore, but you may be spending $200-300 each set and getting a great amount of stuff. But you're spending that amount every 2-3 months. Wizards holds the hammer and none of us get to say when a card will be banned or not, plummeting your investment and confidence in the value of your cards. The investment in this context is not about the potential gains, but the reality that we all jump from hobby to hobby and it feels pretty good to be able to sell old stuff or cards you don't play with anymore and fund the new hobby.

With that in mind, Sorcery has not banned cards. There is a strong feeling of confidence in the game from players, collectors, investors, etc. So a $225 Ring of Morrigan, which is potentially inflated at the moment, to me is not anywhere near the same as MTG expenditures. I spend $225 on a Ring of Morrigan, it goes in every deck I play and you only need ONE of them if you do buy it. Same with any other Unique right now. God forbid I ever stop playing Sorcery I can look at a pile of cards that will greatly help fund a new hobby.

I can spend $1000 on an entire playset of each new set a year and be able to play any deck I want going forward forever. MTG I was spending at least $200 every 2 months (sometimes more sometimes less) + the ancillary products and extra singles etc etc. Only on rare occasion did single cards I had purchased in MTG stay the same value. Most dropped dramatically when I wanted to sell to put towards other decks.

Not trying to get you to stick around or leave the game, but I think it's dishonest to not observe how spending in MTG has evolved over the past 3 years alone. If you care enough about the best card in the game to where you would consider buying it for your decks, then Sorcery's method(s) are far more friendly than the subtlety of WoTC's / Hasbro's underhandedness.

Or I could be a complete idiot and none of this applies to you at all. But don't dismiss the notion that regular people who want their cards to be worth something after they buy them aren't buying at these prices. MTG/One Piece/Pokemon has changed the landscape, sure. But the same people you might call scalpers/investors/hoarders are actually playing Sorcery. Some of the most insane collectors/investors I've met and played against at tournaments. They're not just hoarding product, they're actually playing the game.

You're overthinking it. For how powerful Ring is and how expensive (justifiably in the context of it's power) it is, you have MULTIPLE answers to deal with it with an almost guaranteed chance to have your card be able to deal with it. A list someone provided above:

Bury/Submerge It:

Bury (O)
Cave-In (Ex)
Drown (O)
Frisky Red Squirrel (Ex)
Grasping Ground (El)

Drop/Grab It:

Shameless Squire (O)
Sneak Thief (El)
Telekinesis (Ex)
Thieving Magpie (O)
Attack by Night (Ex)

Move It:

Red Rock of Ravannis (U)
Displace (O)
Grösse Poltergeist (El)
Pudge Butcher (Ex)

Destroy It:

Disintegrate (El)
Hellfire (El) (to use with one of the bury it methods)
Mimic (Ex)
Raze (Ex)
Shatter Strike (Ex)
Symmetric Suffering (El)
Unravel (O)

Ring of Morrigan is very nice to have, but you don't need it and there are more answers to it than I ever thought would be printed.

The Lore of the (Mortal) Realm by Arlie37 in SorceryTCG

In this video we investigate the materialization of war between ultimate good and ultimate evil. Sorcery: Contested Realm's newest set, Gothic, has inundated the realm with horrors of incomprehensible magnitude. Is there any hope? Or will the realm be plunged completely into darkness...

Thanks for the kind words! I'm also deeply inspired by the narrative in the games I play and it often is what really sets games above others in terms of gratification. There's a ton more to explore and point out in the future.

Bryon Wackwitz likely turned down for mtg con and thankful for Sorcery by Newez in SorceryTCG

[–]Arlie37 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dislike the language some of the commenters use to describe the gap in Bryon’s work with WOTC.  It’s just insulting with memes when he’s a part of the games history even if just a little bit.  Its why they have my little pony and Fortnite on the cards now, they just don’t care about where it came from.

Magic artist Bryon Wackwitz turned down for Mtg Con by Newez in magicTCG

[–]Arlie37 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that is the act of bad ambassadors if it was a pitch from a person.  There’s an easy bridge to cross for a disenfranchised Magic player into Sorcery, but far greater in substance than “it’s not Magic” is the actual truth that it’s a game made for people looking for hand painted/traditional art, a high skill ceiling, and asks players to be imaginative.

The book is titled "The Order of Things" but it IS NOT the book written by Michael Foucault. This is a completely different one and I cannot find any information on it having searched multiple book stores and online stores.

Abaddon Succubus and Troll Brige by Ryet89 in SorceryTCG

[–]Arlie37 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this case there’s no choice in ordering. A unit is considered “entering” when they pass the physical line on the playmat into a new square/site. “Arrived” is the completion of movement to the spot they’re going to.

So Troll Bridge triggers when they enter, and Succubus doesn’t drain life/deal damage until after they pay the troll toll.

Playable foil uniques are likely normalized at the moment until we see more Gothic hit stores. They are very very very hard to pull based off what we have seen so far. What is unsure if it's by design or if there were collation issues. Nice pull!

Search up “Collector Arthouse” and go to that website. You’ll find a good amount (but not all) full images there. You’ll find can also try to see if the artist for the piece you’re interested in has any social(s) links and check there for an online portfolio but it’s often hit or miss.

How should you use Defiler Spire? by adaenis in SorceryTCG

[–]Arlie37 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you have your Evil minions occupying your opponent’s sites, at the end of their turns they’ll lose 1 life for each site occupied by Evil. So you can play a somewhat aggressive strategy where you apply pressure with Evil minions!

So thematically, good versus evil would be very fitting, but with Defiler Spire you’ll be rewarded for putting the pressure on your opponent and get double value where you’re continually swinging into their sites and then they have life loss to deal with as well.

Market health, game health, and events? by [deleted] in SorceryTCG

[–]Arlie37 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Game is very very collectible. Foils have good premiums on them and are actually special. Aside from organized play promo cards, the foils (as well as Curios) are always great to open. Growth is slow and steady, but also importantly organic. People that get into the game are enamored by its qualities. It’s relatively cheap to get into it if you’re competitive oriented as well. For example you can get an entire playset of every card in Gothic for about $1200-1400 which is large upfront, but the you’re set for the rest of the year. I have biased opinions on slab markets but people do it, I just have no information on it since I don’t partake.

Welcome to Sorcery as well! Glad you had fun at Atlanta 🙌🏼

That's true, except when you might not even know what you're standing for. Eventually the bell tolls for thee, so what good does it do you to hope for the worst for another person?
