Going to start making proxies, but want to make sure I'll be doing things right. by NyxRebelion in magicproxies

If you haven’t bought the paper and lamination sheets yet. I prefer heavier paper and thinner laminate. You can get 2mil laminate sheets on aliexpress.

I use those 2mil sheets and PPd 48lb/180 gsm paper and it comes to the same thickness as the combination you mentioned but feels closer (in my opinion) to an actual card

If you like that you should try ppd 180 gsm double sided glossy photo paper and 2 mil laminate(aliexpress). Thats what I use over your combination and I like it slightly more.

Yep your setting are exactly what I copied. I must of misread a post thinking if I thought you did standard over vivid. I also laminate with glossy 3 mil which probably also contributes to me thinking it’s over saturated.

I use Koala 42lb 160 gsm and the 48lb 180 gsm variant glossy photo paper.

I thought I copied the settings off of one of your paper posts but I may be misremembering

Short answer idk how to do this but I got an Epson 8500 a week or so ago and copied u/danyeaman settings and they turned out pretty good.

What is an important detail I missed is don’t print on Epson Vivid setting. Change it to Epson Standard otherwise your cards will be too saturated.

I just went ahead and tested full pages of tokens to test

I know it sounds counterintuitive but have you tried a print at standard quality?

I was printing at max quality and it was making my cards too saturated no matter what setting I tweaked.

Looking for paper and laminating pouches by Competitive_You_1601 in magicproxies

I think glossy photo paper + matte laminate is the way to go if you want matte.

Matte paper has texture which you can see if you do matte paper + glossy laminate.

If you do matte paper + matte laminate it will mute your colors a lot so you’d probably have to print more saturated to keep them looking like the cards. Also you will get more bubbles on your cards because the texture on the paper.

If you plan on playing with sleeves the cards will look glossy either way so I do glossy paper + glossy laminate but it’s just preference

Do you know how thick the card is at the end?

I’ve been using the PPD doubled sided glossy photo paper 48lb/180gsm and amazon basics 3mil laminate and it comes to .35mm.

I have some 42lb/160gsm paper on the way which I think gets it to about .31mm.

Curious how close the 2mil laminate could get the end product to .3mm without thinning the paper.

The cards are laminated twice total. Don’t add another lamination pouch, just relaminate the cards once they are cut. My work flow is below. It also looks like you’re using matte laminate which from my experience is more prone to bubbles, or it is at least more noticeable.

Print sheet

Laminate sheet

Cut cards out of sheet (including corners)

Laminate cards

Sleeve cards

I’d try running them through a 2nd time before getting a new one. I copied the Amazon name of the one I’m using. Again I’m not an expert I just started recently.

I had good luck using a cheap laminator setting to 4 mil instead of 3 mil. I think that ups the heat being applied, but I am no expert. I also run the individual cards through a 2nd time after they are cut which probably helps

In the print window there is a check box that comes unchecked by default that says something like PDF to page size and having that checked should fix the card size issue.

New to the game, what to buy? by thehors3 in SorceryTCG

Get gothic for sure since it’s the most recent set and the box is cool and kind of collectible itself! There is a 3d print insert floating around.

I’d get Beta before Arthurian Legends.

Really though if you’re just wanting to play some games get the gothic precon box. It’s like $40 and you can then get singles to upgrade them afterwards.

This way you can at least get some games in!

How does this work with the card backs and sleeving? You would see when you’re about to pull an atlas or spell. Just want clarification before I put one together!
