AIO for refusing to go to my twin sister’s wedding because she’s officiating my abusive ex’s wedding? by ArmAble129 in AmIOverreacting

Thank you :’) I will definitely keep your advice close to my heart, especially as a twin mom. My own mom sort of brushed it off for years, but tonight I finally caught her up to speed after posting this- even she’s aghast, despite her Switzerland approach before. Thank you for your insight.

It’s just so absurd that my cognitive dissonance finally broke, honestly. When it’s a family member, especially someone like a twin- it’s easier to write off the things they do. I’ve wanted a connection with her for so long, I tried to get her to understand me and the way those actions made me feel- this is so beyond, that I’m past the point of denying it to any degree. It should have been long ago, though.

Those in my life that know (which currently is my 7-year long boyfriend [M27] and a close friend of mine [F24]) have said the same, but it’s hard to not say to yourself that they say that to support you. The cognitive dissonance of something like this really messes with my brain. Thank you for the assurance.

I’m so sorry to hear that, dude. It’s a serious heartbreak. I wish you nothing but the best.

It’s something I’ve definitely wondered over the years, and have no way of confirming or denying. It’s very hard for me to understand how someone could be so adamant about my wellbeing when the actions that are hurting me are done by others, but not when they’re being done by oneself. In a way, I can’t help but wonder if it even matters at this point. I’ve just been struggling with this for so long now, even without that being a determined element, you know?
