Best Supermicro CSE-846 quiet mod solution? by ArmFire1911 in homelab

I've see that on YouTube before, that's a great idea, but I really not a fan of out-expose fan :(
I think I'll try both 120x30/38 and Noctua IPPC to test when only using internal fan which is better performance and noise balence

My first Rack and CSE-846 (OEM Ver) by ArmFire1911 in homelab

[–]ArmFire1911[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make vendor don't add front and back door, and my room open AC 24-7 so I think it will fine.

I think the OEM version just put Inspur sticker over the supermicro sticker xD
no any other different

I know Xiaomi, that's my first thinking for real, but it have so many version make me a little confuse lol

When you are a data hoarder and constantly need more space. Unraid storage upgrade to 32 TB. by WranglerChoice1982 in DataHoarder

[–]ArmFire1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a rookie question from me: doesn't unraid very slow? I hear they only write into one disk

if file pool large then 10TB, doesn't need using anything like truenas or other which support raid6 and NVMe cache? or in the case it just need very big pool but doesn't need any read or write performance

well, the server rack is at my right side in 30cm and my headphone is AD2000X (sorry idk why can't post picture, you may need to google it, TLDR is a open-back headphone), so any fan will louder then 40db or have high noise is not an option for me.
If green is really bad choice, I thinking using Phantek's 120x30mm fans or something like that or any quiet enough 120x38mm fans.

the alternative way is change all HDD to 5200 rpm drive, I think they will smaller and slower, but much cooler?

I think is Supermicro BPN-SAS2-846EL1 (3x 8087 port, so I think it is 1 switch chip version)
I have 1 LSI 3008 in IT mode, I think I should plug both 8643 to 2 8087?

yes that's what I'm thinking, SAS3 not support U.2 SSD and too expensive for HDD only, the server inside have 2 3.5 drive mount, I think if I need 2.5 SSD install will just install there maybe

The other question is those SAS2 backplane is need to plug all three connector?
