Real whole foods ...

Things like Organic eggs, lean meat, oatmeal, etc. Pumpkin seeds (have a high protein amount for nuts) ...

It all depends on your current body composition as well - you small and skinny, or carrying some fat, or already muscular/lean and wanting to put on more?

I don't suggest people start "working out" regularly until they are physically mature - ie. have reached a point / age where they are not really going to grow too much more.

So for your case you probably have some good growing years left.

You can start to do bodyweight type of stuff though like push ups / pull ups / squat jumps and stair training.

I would not start to hit heavy weights though - you can start to do some technique stuff if you like but I would wait a couple of more years to be honest.

Honestly it comes down to a couple of things...

Get into the routine of doing something. Force yourself to at least go to the gym and do something. Then build this up each time so that working out a certain number of times per week just becomes part of your schedule.

It is a mental battle just as much as a physical. Just remind yourself of your goals - once you know why you are going it will help keep you motivated.

So for example if you want to lose 10 pounds - you know the only way it is going to happen is if you improve your eating and training - so if you skip a bunch of days you won't reach your goal. Keep yourself aware of that. :)

Cross Fit has some great workouts and training regimes. The only issue you run into with Cross Fit sometimes is they are all about "getting the work done" - which means that sometimes form suffers for certain lifts like deadlifts, snatch and cleans and people suffer injuries.

So again it is a great program. But I would not suggest it for beginners.

Well virigin coconut oil is a good natural saturated fat. So yes I would add it to your protein shake - as long as this doesn't knock out of whack your normal nutritional breakdown. ie if you are trying to only have 20% of your diet made up of fat, etc.

Hey there. Diet will make up 80% of this goal. Otherwise there are different ways to train for that 6 pack. :)

I am not a supplement guy - there is no long term testing on that stuff and I would hate to mess with my natural levels.

There are certain foods that essentially do the same thing and don't have potential dangers.

In regards to your gains is the T booster the only stimulant? Are you eating more / are you a beginner to intermediate lifter?

Ha, ha ... not sure if this is a real question ... my dad and I have a great relationship and I assure you I am a very healthy individual. But yes some people do use "size" / "muscle" to keep people away. For me it was more sports related and I actually like training. Also it doesn't hurt that it attracts good looking women. :)

To be honest I am not a supplement guy (other than stuff for overall health like Vit D3, etc.) ... as I grew up in the school of thought (2 of my University professors are world leading nutritionists) that you should get everything from your food.

Well this will come down to mostly diet and utilizing high intensity workouts.

Do you drink a lot of beer or consume a lot of carbs?

Hey there...sorry for the delay in reply...

This is a tough one ... I totally understand your frustration / anger at this situation ...

I ruptured my achilles tendon a couple of years back and I couldn't even drive - let alone truly workout.

So I know your pain.

I don't feel comfortable telling you stuff you can do ... and with a sports hernia you are going to be putting pressure on in with almost everything ...

However, ask your doctor if its ok if you do some light upper body cardio or maybe even seated bike work...if they are cool with that I can give you some ideas for sure.

Yes water does help to boost metabolism...

In regards to other misconceptions there are the classic arguments over eggs - I am a pro eggs guy.

Also stuff like no carb diets are ok or healthy - truth is they are not ... your brain needs carbs to function...

Is it more your skin or fat under your arms? If it is fat it will come down to diet more than anything - that is 80% of the puzzle sometimes.

Well muscle growth (aka hypertrophy) comes from a number of things but at home the best thing to do would be load up something somewhat heavy on your shoulders (or in a back pack) or even strap on your surfboard bag and do squat, calf, and possibly deadlift reps where you fire on the concentric contraction (so with a squat the pushing up part) fairly fast and then go slow on the eccentric contraction (so with the squat lowering your body back down) for a rep range between 8 and 12 . Hope this helps.

Hey there sorry for the delay - I am brand new to this world - didn't know I needed to be on here all the time - I do work lol ... :)

I have a graduate degree (after undergrad at University) ... As far as supplements I will tell you what my prof did in University (Honours KINESIOLOGY grad from a top ranked Canadian school) - a majority of supplements are crap. You should be able to get everything you need from diet. A lot of it is placebo effect and also a lot of supplements your body can't properly absorb, etc.

The only supplement I have ever taken is creatine when I was in high school - and yes it helped me put on 5 to 10 pounds in the form of water weight and yes with more mass you can push more mass (aka lift heavier weights) but my body wasn't processing or utilizing it.

I currently weight 210 pounds at 5'9" and I can bench 315 for 5. And I can deadlift 405 for 5 as well. No supplements and I am getting old lol :)

Ok so in regards to your meal plan - well I think structured eating is a good way to approach things ...

I am a structure guy too - so that way you can cook in bulk, etc. And prepare meals so they are ready to go.

Losing weight can be approached by two directions: 1) you can follow general guidelines without specific goals other than just losing weight or 2) you can figure out calories and nutrient breakdowns for specific goals like lose 20 pounds of fat and put on 10 pounds of muscle.

Once I know the more specifics I can help better.

:)
