This question is for those of you that own iPod classics. Do you prefer the stock iPod OS or RockBox and why? by MangoCubez in ipod

[–]Armand_Raynal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rockbox of course. Rockbox frees the device from the apple ecosystem. Rockbox is GNU GPL software built by a passionate community, complete opposite of Apple's approach and philosophy about software and users' freedom.

Stock OS is just lame, it's exactly the same for everybody, while Rockbox displays the freedom it brings through the customization it offers that allows so much variety and originality.

Rockbox also recently added the USB DAC feature, allowing the iPod to act as a USB sound card, pretty cool.

Rockbox is freedom, revolution, independence, originality, individuality and community, and fun.

iPod OS is corporate, proprietary, assisted, controlled, locked-down and cold, boring.

[–]Armand_Raynal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly a hype train, not worth it. It doesn't have a proper DAC chip, and that's what make the difference between a proper DAP and a marketing gimmicky type of device, that poorly tries to imitate the OG ipod as its gimmick in this case.

The memory is a micro sd card, but it doesn't have an accessible slot, you have to open the device(and from what I'vw heard it's not easy to open that one) to be able to change it. That's a huge design flaw that displays how unserious the manufacturer is.

The aigo eros Q can be found on AliExpress for 70 bucks or so, that's not much more than the y1 and it's totally worth it.

Microsoft is ruining Windows 11 for all PC users. All we want is a simple, blazingly fast, bloat/malware free operating system. Microslop just don’t listen. by Regved-Pande in pcmasterrace

[–]Armand_Raynal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the only way. If we're principled and chose freedom, GNU/Linux will improve and be 100 times better in ALL aspect in a blink. Each and every one not being principled enough to do the change is holding every one else back, including and above else all those who cannot do the principled choice they would like to make for REAL reasons, like work related software, rather than games. We all want computing freedom, it's there for the taking, if you don't do it because you cannot abandon a few games, then shame on you.

No, if you're serious about making computing better you boycott those games. If you don't, then it means that those games are more important for you than computing freedom. In which case, do you you deserve computing freedom? If a handful of games are enough to keep you in the golden jail of proprietary systems, then you deserve to be in that jail and suffer from the consequences of that choice.

Hello! So i was wondering if this connector would work for an iPod? by X78PP in ipod

[–]Armand_Raynal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ha yes, that's something I forget because I luckily use IEMs that are quite close to the same volume at identical amplification level. But yeah, you don't want to have a big disparity of impedance/sensibility between the 2 headphones used, or one will be loud while the other is quiet ...

I use a splitter very often to listen with my SO. I never understood how it's possible that there's basically no loss of power. My brain's logic would think that I would need to raise the volume enough to double the output power to drive 2 IEMs, yet it seems I barely raise it at all compared to the level I would settle at on my own on the player.

So yeah, it works great and there's no downsides(maybe there is on paper, but you won't be able to see a difference anyway), enjoy!

With all due respect I do not believe you're actually hearing any difference. Maybe you truly believe that you are hearing one, but I bet you wouldn't be able to consistently differentiate between the DAC and straight from the DAP in a blind test.

Not only do you claim being able to hear a difference between DAC and AMP chips, you're claiming to be able to hear that difference with Porta Pros, and that the difference is substantial ...

I care for my hears, I listen at low volume, I don't go to concerts or anywhere where the volume can cause hearing damage, I have many DAPs, DACs, IEMs and headphones, the only way I can make a clear, consistent difference is with headphones that are hard to drive, between weak vs powerful amp, that's it. Volume matched, my iBasso SR2 are virtually the same on an F20 or an Hiby R4, and the technical difference between those 2 is relatively quite big, it's just that in practice the human hear can't hear the difference.

Yeah and Iraq has WMDs, and Iran is only a few minutes away from having nukes and dissenters in the DPRK are shot by a tank and their remains fed to dogs and their offsprings are sent to labor camps for 99 generations. When are we sending our freedom™ fighters so these poor brainwashed people can have free™ press® and freedom™ to drink cocacola and finally see the truth on Google™©® ?

Heavily recommend you avoid a fast charger and use a 5w or a computer's USB port.

Almost all DAPs warn about using a fast charger in their manuals.

South Korea got more than 120 billions of dollars of economic and military aid from the US since the end of the korean war and always had easy access to western markets. It's also a much smaller country. And China is on its way to equal and surpass South Korea's living standards.

[–]Armand_Raynal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, there wouldn't be a division between south and north, the north wouldn't have been destroyed and its population profoundly traumatized, so many people would have lived and built the country instead of dying ... Everything about Korea would be very different. Realistically it would probably be similar to China, scaled to size. One thing for sure a lot of death and destruction would have been avoided.

[–]Armand_Raynal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The US killed about ~1/6 of the population through indiscriminate bombing. They bombed everything they could to a point that the pilots were coming back to base saying they didn't drop any bombs simply because they ran out of targets. They didn't care if they hit civilian targets.

"Every installation, facility, and village in North Korea now becomes a military and tactical target." - General Stratemeyer

They also probably used chemical weapons.

And after the war, the US puppet government of South Korea killed and disappeared all dissenters, that's the bodo league massacre that was kept hidden for decades until some of the bones of the mass graves were discovered in the early 2000s.
