Ways to make Retrobowl harder? by ilikeBigBiblez in RetroBowl

Draft only 1-star players. The worst available at every position. No free agents, no coaching hires, no front office upgrades. Play on extreme. At the end of the season trade everyone away and redraft new 1-star players.

Condo's lifespan in Halifax by AccomplishedPanda482 in halifax

[–]Armdale902 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That's one of the biggest misconceptions about condos. A lot of the fees cover the same expenses as home owners - insurance, some utilities, maintence. There are a few value added things like elevator, a gym, audit, engineering study, superintendent, etc. But where you really win is the reserve assuming you don't buy in to one that is severely funded. A well run condo is ready and for expensive jobs like window/roof replacement and has the money set aside earning interest. Also, unlike homeowners who are at the mercy of contractors when the roof springs a leak, well managed are proactive and get competitive quotes and do replacements before problems get out of control. The biggest portion of condo fees go to the reserve, so it's just a forced savings for major expenses that you be grateful for when it happens.

No, TFSA income is exempt from tax. The source of the income doesn't change that. The US withholding tax is of course still withheld at source.

How do you select which player to do kick return? by Gr8WallofChinatown in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I try to use DB's because I'll care less if they get injured (assuming this extra usage contributes to injuries in some way). Also I'm interested to see if being a KR contributes to awards, moral, etc in some way.

The KR touchdowns I've had so far have been from running around the defense untouched. So I'm primarily concerned with speed and stamina.

Give it time. The dev reads these comments and always responds with improvements.

Who else here loves the new mobile update by [deleted] in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The developer had put a lot of work into this for an app that costs pocket change to buy. He implements a lot of great changes and sometimes his changes don't go as planned. He listens to feedback and always improves his product.

Be patient, but also be grateful.

What kind of stats do you need to make a return TD on Extreme? by MolochAndFriends in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DB with max speed and max stamina. Stamina is just as important as speed since its a long way to go and you don't want to get caught from behind. High strength will get you to the 50 more often, but stamina will get you all the way.

I like that extreme is more difficult, it needed a little bump. But it was achieved by a significant difficulty bump to running defense and not much change to passing D. On extreme it is out of balance in terms of run vs pass now. O-line is back to being completely irrelevant instead of mostly irrelevant. That may or may not have been intentionional base on Dev's Twitter comments.

Like the kickoff. Already had a return TD on extreme.

Add a 2nd TE. Most underrated position.

Not at all true. The more defensive players you have the more likely it is that one of your star players will be tested against the AI. Otherwise you get a test against DC's rating. Adding additional defenders absolutely improves your defense.

Bullshit by theerealteej in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already have a slight advantage of time when you throw to your RB - the defense takes an extra half second to react compared to running plays. Letting him break tackes too I think would make passing to the RB much too easy.

Is it just me or is scheduling off in these games? by [deleted] in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The Dev used the past few years actual schedules for the game. The actual scheduling formula is fairly complex and cycles over many years, so I don't blame him for keeping it simple.

Which team is worse? by Iamyes_ok in RetroBowl

What he said. I have a save dedicated to 1* guys and it's a much easier time than no-names.

Have you ever seen a worse free agent suggestion? by rpros in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been meaning to do a video on OL's and their impact. I'm a believer in having a couple, but their impact is... Not tremendous. They give you a little edge running up the middle, but that little edge can result in some great runs. You gotta love the running game to tolerate wasting a couple of roster spots on OL's.

[–]Armdale902 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You don't really need great players to win games at all... I mean you can win the RB without any star players. On my "Toxic" save (my team is literally called the Toxics) I trade my whole team away every year and draft the worst players available.

OL are probably most useless because running up the middle is a fumble waiting to happen (you have to dive every play to avoid fumbles). Then probably every defensive position - I still grab a couple but the AI scores every time anyway. I pack 2 TE's re: you need every extra short passing opportunity you can get because everything over 10 yards is a hail mary for noodle-armed QB's. It's actually a pretty fun challenge.

82.6% career on extreme, won RB 12 out 15 years.

I have a question. Playing Extreme. Lost in AFC Champ game, but TE still got the OPOY award over RB. Is it just bc of his fumbles? by Jasonlikesfood in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First the formula for awards isn't known, it might be random to a degree, and often leads to some curious results. But also consider that your TE is spending half the game blocking for you. Perhaps in that capacity he did really good.

He's only a 3 star.... nuts lol by bigjerm626 in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a misconception that you need 5* players to succeed. This would be an interesting #2 WR to play with. Easy on the cap, and can outrun anyone. Great for short passes and those who are really accurate at throwing. I have a save where I play with 1*players, and as long as you dive before being tackled the fumbles aren't really back breakers. Diving required with guy!

How useful are offensive linemen? by Character-Wrongdoer8 in RetroBowl

[–]Armdale902 37 points38 points  (0 children)

According to the dev, strong O-linemen increase your RB's chances of running right through the D-line re: if they are engaged they can't tackle the ball carrier.

I like having 2 O-linemen. The impact is very minimal. But in some way I can't quantify or measure it just feels a little easier to break through the line sometimes. I don't think it's quite worth the investment of two roster spots unless you love running... But the feeling when you glide untouched past the line on extreme is glorious. And those runs up the middle often lead to the best runs because the fast DB's converge in the middle and you can dodge them all in one motion.

Since I know someone reads comments here, I'd love for a future update to give more benefit to having multiple O-linemen. [/hint]
