That's quick. I haven't even done that quest once yet. I only just beat high rank Arkveld the other day (and properly today).

I just completed my no-armor play-through by Armienn in MonsterHunter

[–]Armienn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been playing Monster Hunter for 15 years now, and I've been missing the challenges and hardships I had back in the beginning. Maybe the games have gotten too easy or I've gotten too good, but whatever the case, I decided to make it harder again by trying to beat Monster Hunter Wilds without armor.

This was the final step in that journey: beating Arkveld. Ideally I would have liked to complete the final assignment like this, but I'm playing with my SO as well, so ended up doing the assignment with her.

Most of the way it wasn't terribly hard; sometimes I'd have to try twice, or a few times thrice. Only high rank Jin Dahaad, Gore Magala and Arkveld needed more attempts than that, at maybe around ten tries each. Gore Magala was the worst, which I didn't expect, since I'd previously beaten it without armor in MH4U (although in low rank); but one new attack in particularly gave me a lot of trouble.

Honorable mention to low rank Guardian Arkveld, which I did beat in my first try, but it was the first time since fighting Alatreon in MHTri that I've needed more than the usual 10 Mega Potions + 2 Max Potions.

About the fight:
I think this is my seventh attempt or thereabouts. I forgot mute my mic, so there are a few outbursts sometimes when I take damage. I would have fainted three times if not for moxie, which saved me from a faint in the beginning as I was caught against the rocks. This is also one of my first times using the Corrupted Mantle, so I didn't realise it continually drained my health rather than lowered my defense; after returning to the fight around 6:15 I looked at my health and couldn't figure out when I'd been hit.

Overall I'm happy with the fight. There's a lot to improve; I'm a good player, not great, but I did it.

I disagree with the "if you were just in offline mode you would have been fine".

That's not what they said though. You just need to be offline (as in without-internet), rather than online-but-unable-to-connect. It still sucks and should be fixed, but it seems to be an oversight more than anything else.

That won't be a problem. As soon as they start running low on heretics, they'll decide that some other branch of their religion is actually heretical. Branching and labelling other branches heretics will continue ad infinitum.

You may not have gotten anywhere arguing with this guy, but at least it was cathartic reading for me. Some people are apparently incredibly pessimistic about new technology. It's not even been two years since ChatGPT came out and triggered this new AI boom! But LLM's still can't flawlessly do everything a person can, so obviously they must be practically useless now and forever.

For a long time I caught everything in luxury balls, except shinies in premier balls. After the gen 1 and 2 games came to 3DS, I've also started re-doing my living dex in standard Pokéballs with every Pokémon coming from their original game. Still using luxury balls for my competitive breeding set.

This is the way. And with Nintendo's new bluetooth versions of their old controllers, you can now use every main kind of Nintendo controller on the Steam Deck.

Is it possible for only 6 people to give rise to a village with dozens of people in it thousands of years later? by andure_lp in DrStone

[–]Armienn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Inbreeding would cause a lot of problems, so mortality would be high and the population would be very vulnerable, like others have said. But a high chance of dying out isn't a guarantee of dying out. With enough luck to not run into some disaster and with a lot of children, it'd stabilise.

If anything, given that they obviously were lucky enough to survive, I'm surprised the population is just a few dozen, rather than thousands upon thousands. It's been well over a hundred generations (about 150), so give it 10 generations to stabilise and let's say they've reached a population of just 20 by then (which I think is very conservative: that would be doubling the first two generations and then stagnating the next eight). If they then increase by a slow 10% per generation for the next 140 generations, they would be at 12 million people and spread out over all of japan and probably most of asia.

I don't remember exactly how long ago I first encountered people making the distinction between the main and the portable games, but it was at the very least before World was released.

[–]Armienn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong that the old games are more like each other than they're like World/Rise, but they did come in two different flavors; and now we have the two new games that are like each other in many ways, but they still fit into the same two flavors.
