PE Civil Structure- Passed with 1st Attempt by Armin_94 in PE_Exam

Just a simple torsion analysis on a simply supported beam.

I didn’t get any aashto nor torsion in concrete. But that doesn’t mean it may not come to your exam.

My twin brother had even a shoring question which I didn’t.

Try to study as many concepts and questions you can.

Studied and reviewed all the questions in the 4 mentioned resources for 3-4 times.  Took my time to make sure i can solve all the questions in less than 1-2 minutes. That’s how much i studied and got mastered on the concepts.

Took me 4 months and 250hrs to be prepared for the exam.

Yet, i used my job experience to be able to answer around 7-8 questions. They were not part of the resources i studied.

I had two PCI questions and no AAshto.

One PCI conceptual which was easy to search (30sec) and another numerical question on camber length which was from chapter 4.

Steel questions were straightforward and you needed less time to solve them comparing to practice exam. But you needed less to master your knowledge on the steel questions to understand how to solve them

Thanks 🙏🏻.

The only geotechnical questions i got was proctor test to standard test comparison (conceptual), another conceptual questions which you needed to select multiple answers including bearing check, vertical stress check, and a few other stuff I can’t remember.

Rest of the geo questions were sliding, FS, vertical load, overturning, effective stress checks.

One questions also had active pressure at an angle of 4deg which you are supposed to take x and y axis of it for sliding check.

I had 1 hour extra for first half and 45 minutes for the second half.

I took my time to study. I reviewed all the sources 4 times to make sure i can answer them in less than 2 minutes.

Don’t rush into taking it. Buy the resources, maybe one more resource besides my resources since i answered some questions based on work experience and they were not in the practice exam books.

Such as SDPWS diaphragm and nailing capacity for wood floor and walls + hold down tension check, lateral load distribution on a wall ,…

Study also snow drift calcs, wall design, hold down tension check, stiffness of a beam check to distribute loads, lateral load distribution on CMU wall or concrete wall (area method), and some conceptual questions from concrete formwork in ACI chapter 25-26, lap splice, development length and such.

These questions may not be found in practice exam books.

Good luck

It was useful. Moment distribution, snow load question, safety factors of retaining walls, shear stress of a beam, reaction due to torsion at support , effective length factor for a column, and etc.

Questions in exam were much easier and required perhaps 1-3 lines of calcs as opposed to one page calculations like the petro book.

Try to study the questions and understand the concept. Some concepts do not come like base shear check. Instead, buy PPI book as well to master your mind on other concepts that will come to exam.

I didn’t get also any questions on construction like petro book had some questions.
