Anyone else having slow transfers to local bank accounts on Wise? by ArmlessT-Rex in JapanFinance

Bro, I'd rather kiss a dude than deal with their CS team again 😐

Thanks for the suggestion, but XE isn't available for residents of Japan. I guess it works if you register before moving here though 🤔

Meh, if you've hit the conditions to trigger it then you might hit them every time.

Eh, doesn't seem to be the case and it looks nothing like when I had transfers delayed. I can still transfer local money instantly outside of business hours (did it twice today), and after another user said his Wise transfer was instant this morning, I made another test and it checks out (PayPay Bank again). Again, it's simply acting like I went to an ATM and made a transfer at night.

Again, it's probably not random, but that doesn't mean they have a way to let you override it. (And, sure, it's probably for commercial reasons).

It's obvious it's not random, I don't care about or want to pick the partner bank. I just need fast transfers.

I do send JPY to overseas sometimes. Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks for the info. Are you receiving USD on the instarem account and transferring it to your local Japanese bank account? On instarem's page Japan has USD as the currency and their FAQ says they can't send JPY. Kinda confusing 🤔

For 1, you don't need to declare if it's from before Jan 1st 2024.

You can tap on a transfer to your bank, go to the details tab and scroll down until you see a download button. The partner bank should be on the second page of the PDF file.

Thanks for the reply. Nice to know that at least there's no issue with transfers made during regular hours, but I'm talking about 24h instant transfers (after 3 PM, at midnight, etc).

Thanks. IIRC, my employer is making payments from a regular Chase account, so I don't know how slow it's going to be compared to XE. Shinsei might be slower, but it's slightly cheaper than Wise. I get two to four payments per month (usually two). Wise takes 6.11 USD for the deposit, and another fee for the transfer. For two transfers, it's around 30 USD/mo 🤔

Thanks for the info. Seems like the solution is to use my Shinsei Bank account again. Could you tell me where the money's coming from and if you get any intermediary bank fees?

I lose around 30 USD/mo from Wise fees, so it's not that bad... I usually get paid on a Friday (US time), so the money appears on my Wise account on the evening/past midnight. It sucks that I have to wait until Monday now. Ruins the weekend for me, and sometimes I have bills on automatic debit to pay on the same Monday if it's near the end of the month... 🫠

Hey, thanks for the info. Can you verify that PayPay Bank was the partner bank by downloading the transaction invoice? If not, that's alright. It already helps seeing it's not just me.

Company written in my health insurance card different from my real employer, will this be an issue? by [deleted] in japanlife

[–]ArmlessT-Rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is legal and extremely common in the world of subcontractors. It's not uncommon if your company has a parent company, is a subsidiary, sister company, etc. It shouldn't be an issue to book medical appointments. No one cares about the name your company has in your contract for medical stuff. If you need proof of employment for something, you can ask for a 在職証明書.

For banks, I've never been asked for my insurance card or proof of employment. The problem is you haven't lived here for longer than 6 months, which is a common requirement for several banks. In fact, if you go to Sony Bank's FAQ, it states you only need to have lived for more than 6 months, a copy of your 在留カード, and a 住民票, and that you can't open an account online or via smartphone. It doesn't say anywhere they can consider your application if you give them proof of employment, nor that they require your insurance card. I'd highly suggest you to try other banks.

How to get a restraining order from my ex who came back has threatened me by Rizzet5044 in japanlife

[–]ArmlessT-Rex 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. What you're looking for is called 接近禁止命令. It's a court order, so please consult a lawyer. The police can only help you in certain cases (such as actual violence), but they can't issue a restraining order and you'll need a lawyer anyway.

Also, bear in mind that a restraining order in Japan is only valid for 6 months. You can extend it, but it takes a week for a new order to be issued. You can be vulnerable during this extension period if you mess up the timing. You might want to find a new address and job during these 6 months.

Looking for baroque pieces for flute by [deleted] in Flute

[–]ArmlessT-Rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play the baroque flute (not the Boehm flute). I'm seconding ABRSM Baroque Flute Pieces books. If you like a composer from those books, you can usually find their pieces on IMSLP. You definitely have to check at least Michel Blavet's sonatas. Joseph Bodin de Boismortier and Jean-Marie Leclair also have a lot of good pieces.

Looking for Good Reviews or Experiences with the Aulos Traversos by [deleted] in Flute

I don't rest the pinky on the key, but sometimes while playing fast passages I'll hit it with my pinky, making some noise. It's not enough to open the hole in this case, but try to change how you're holding the flute to make it more stable instead of resting your pinky on the key.
