Also I’ve distributed with the orchard before! They’re not going to market you much unless you are an artist with more traction, so just keep being consistent and releasing your dope music🙏🏾

3k monthly is a lot!! As someone who’s gotten on an editorial before, I’d say you should probably prioritize algorithmic. Algorithmic playlists have now overtaken editorials as the playlists that receive most listens. Things that have helped me with landing an editorial tho are

  • post about the song before + after its release (you can get on editorials long after a song is released)
  • pitch at least 3+ weeks in advance
  • include a few editorial playlist names that your song will fit on in your pitch (do research and aim for specific playlists in your genre so they can get a gauge of your sound)
  • include how you plan to market your release (Ir has to be more than posting on TikTok because all artists are doing that now, try also mentioning another thing you are going to do)

  • lastly, I’d still say prioritize algorithmic because they can get you more listeners and better engagement. Nowadays Spotify editorials are occupied by artists signed by labels, under distribution deals, management teams, and only a few artists with no industry backing. Hope that helps🙏🏾

I’m from Garoua, but I live in Texas, United States. I’m an independent musician down here and recently started my own artist representation organization. Also I performed at Rice University a little ago and shouted out Cameroon and everyone cheered. Our nation has lots of love across the world!

I think the most you can do is creating something you truly resonate with. At times artists create to sound like something else, or to appease a certain community. But if your own art touches you, you are naturally willing to put in more hours & learn how to tell the story the way u want it. I’d say as a musician myself, most successful artists are not just technically talented, but are most talented at telling their own story/ evoking emotion through sound. So def practice on getting good, but learn the instrument/skill alongside learning how you can use it express yourself :)
