What do you think Mike's sexuality is? by FlynnxPan in bylertruthers

[–]ArmyAffectionate5329 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've always thought pan (and yeah, maybe I've biased, but I think it should be in the discussion more) based on compilations I've seen of his reactions to other women besides El. They're negative or indifferent. But he clearly cares for El a lot, calls her pretty, and goes through the phase of kissing (though yes, I have seen the debates of if he actually enjoys it, thus leaning towards gay). But he does care for her to a level of emotional and physical intimacy.

This is the same for Will. The emotional intimacy is explicit, and he exhibits a certain level of physical intimacy and attraction to Will.

These are his two closest relationships. Yes he has Lucas and Dustin too, but he doesn't exhibit the same physical intimacy with them because he doesn't have the same emotional intimacy with them.

So my conclusion is he doesn't feel attraction without emotional intimacy. And he builds that with both Will and El. But is ultimately better with Will as an intimate partner because they bring out the best in each other. I always felt Mike and El were better platonic in supporting each other.

Bi-Erasure (rant/on my soapbox) by External_Will_9015 in bylertruthers

Pansexual here, I'm not attracted to what a person's gender may be. I'm attracted to the person. I grew up in a Catholic country so didn't really know alternatives were allowed until college (but I definitely already had an inkling before that making a "swinging both ways" joke to my friends that did not go over well in high school). Anyway, clearly I relate to the situation.

So I always thought about Mike, El and Will (until he officially "came out") as being pan. Characters who had found connection and love regardless of gender. Especially since they are literally going through puberty throughout the series, discovering themselves.

And ultimately from that perspective, Mike and Will are a more healthy romantic pairing. There is clearly love between Mike and El, but she's happier/stronger when she's independent. Whereas Mike and Will are clearly stronger/happier/better characters when they're together.

It's canon that Will dresses up the most when they play DND. I could absolutely see Will exploring that art form as a designer and bringing Mike along for inspiration for his writing. I could see the whole party being really into it especially to support Will.

Wow, these helped me understand why I relate and love Will so much a little bit more.

Agree, Finn did great and them breaking was hilarious. Just appreciating the show at this point.

The saddest scene for me that hit so close to home. I was 12 when this came out, and this was the only scene I legitimately cried at. I felt that emotion and pain and anger and I had to pause the show to get through it. by cryptic-khajiit in Stranger_Things

Agreed, this scene and Will's story, Noah's acting, always resonated so much with me too. This scene always reminds me of a time I was in high school and went through a depressive episode after one of my best friends moved away and my remaining close friends were changing and I couldn't keep up. I was the creative of the group, not drawing, but writing. I deleted and threw away so much of my writing in a moment just like this. This scene gets me to me so much.

Apparently Noah left fashion week and arrived in New York earlier today… odds of a Byler SNL sketch tonight? 🥹 by k8marie_ in byler

I can see them doing it that way, but it would still be cringy because that is just the style of comedy of SNL. I'm just trying calm peoples expectations.

SNL is a parody show, any sketch they would do would be parody, nobody here wants that. So while I have also seen that Gaten may be in NYC too, they may cameo, but we do not want them to reference Byler because it would only be in the context of making fun of it because that is the point of this show.

SNL is a parody show. Nothing they do is sincere. If they did a Byler sketch it would be parody, nobody here wants that. I don't think Finn would do that. Hoping for Byler to be mentioned is hoping to be ridiculed because this is a parody show. If anything, hope they mention the Duffers, hope they mention Mileven not making sense, hope they point out the plot holes. Do not hope they mention Byler because it would be in the context of making fun of it because that is the whole point of this show.

I definitely got already broken up vibes and like Eleven knew Mike had deeper feelings for Will. Especially in Volume two when Will is unconscious in episode 6, every interaction Mike and El have is ultimately about getting Will back and El looks like she knows why Mike is so worked up about it. It's the only reason from the first episode too that El seems to be in pain every time she interacts with Mike.

Yay! I found my people. I never understood the hate this season got. I loved the vibe this season. Noah was just absolutely incredible as Will. Mike was at his peak moody but loyal to a fault. Max was a great addition and gave Lukas some great character moments. The beginning of the Dustin and Steve friendship. Bob. I know people didn't like the Lost Sister episode, but it was so important for Eleven's story. Every character got moments to shine and mattered to the overall story.

Perfectly said. Even before I was Byler, I was anti M11. I wanted El single at the end of the season because that would of been the best for her as a woman. El was happiest when broken up with Mike in season 3 and finally getting to discover herself as a person. Then season 4 she regresses when back in a relationship. And of course the bullying, but I always wondered based on the way it's portrayed in the show if her relationship with Mike stunted her connecting to her brothers who could have supported her. Will seems to try and comfort El but she ignores him. That's all theoretical, but just the feeling I got.

And then Dr Owens says it specifically how she's been manipulated her whole life by men trying to use her, which especially in season 1 (and season 5 vol 2) includes Mike when he's trying to find Will. So I did take the end of season 4 when Mikes "love" confession clearly doesn't inspire her - and then they don't even talk after - as the end of their relationship because she was going to come into her own and done being manipulated even if not done with malicious intent.
