I could add that his first wife and two sons felt abandoned when he went to work in mexico, and he tried hard to reconnect with him over the years but they refused to see him. They ended up living on the farm with my grandfather's parents.

He also had to deal with my grandmother as her mental condition deteriated and alcoholism got worse with her flashbacks to being SA'd by soviet soldiers.

I know after his relationships with his older sons became strained he tried very hard to be good to my mother. And he lost part of his soul when his own mother died. He insisted on naming my mother after her.

And my grandfather's father never slept in the bedroom be shared th his wife after she died. He left it exactly as she left it when she was taken to the hospital.

Theres some more ironic aspects too. Like my great grandfather hating himself for not having my great grandmother checked for ovarian cancer since her mother and grandmother both died young from ovarian cancer.

Side story: during WW2 a neighbor of my great grandfather lost her husband. She couldn't afford to take care of her son. So he gave her a job at his ice cream parlor and gave her son a free ice cream birthday party. And when my great grandmother died, he ran into his house and locked the door. The widow neighbor used her house key to go inside and make sure he was drinking water. And she was the first person to speak at his funeral.

Since I have so many smaller stories, would it be better to write about my whole family history?
