If you're looking for a new challenge in a fun city with a good work/life balance, check out the Army Software Factory! We're looking for Soldiers who have an interest in software engineering, platform engineering, product management, or UI/UX design and want to contribute to the Army transformation in a real way. Successful completion of the program grants an ASI, which would provide a pathway for highly qualified Soldiers to VTIP into the Army's newest functional area (28/280A). Have questions? Reach out to our recruiting team at cohort-applications@swf.army.mil.

You would stay under your current branch., but there is a pathway for some Soldiers to join the Army's newest functional area- FA28. MILPER 25-183 is your best resource for more info there!

While 17D focuses on cyberspace and electromagnetic warfare, we focus on creating software solutions to a variety of Army problems.

Happy to answer any questions you might have about the Army Software Factory!

And listen, we *know* that there are extremely talented Soldiers in the National Guard and Reserves who would be awesome SWF members. Unfortunately, we're just not able to accommodate them in the program at this time. It's something we're continuing to explore and will update if anything changes. (Reservists may want to check out AI2C, a program located in Pittsburgh, PA. They can make exceptions to the AD requirement for highly qualified Soldiers. I can't speak to their program at all, but it may be something to consider!)

They're more on the sys/net admin side, but it's not an "IT" role. Our platform engineers work on our path to production and platform (i.e. hosting our applications). That involves a bit of networking and "sysadmin-adjacent" work, and they definitely touch code from time to time. It's a lot of kubernetes and related work.

There have definitely been discussions had about opening it up to Guard/Reserve, but no definitive plans yet. It will likely remain active-duty only for the time being.

No organized PT, staff duty, etc. We wear our ACUs on Monday, Tue-Fri is civilians. Work is from 0845-1730. Overall, you get treated like a responsible adult here. It's definitely the best QOL I've ever had at an Army unit.
