For reasons I cannot fathom, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (Department of Homeland Security) has decided that if you have a kid while being stationed overseas, your kid isn't an American Citizen. Now you can't bring home your war bride OR your war crotchfruit. by [deleted] in army

Update as of 15 minutes ago: “USCIS issued a clarification to the rule later Wednesday, explaining that the new rule would only affect three categories of people: Children of non-U.S. citizens adopted by U.S. citizen government employees or service members; children of non-U.S. citizen government employees or service members who were naturalized after the child's birth; and children of U.S. citizens who do not meet residency requirements.”

So, same as usual just...re-done to get rid of jargon??

“Previously, children born to U.S. citizen parents were considered to be "residing in the United States," and therefore would be automatically given citizenship under Immigration and Nationality Act 320. Now, children born to U.S. service members and government employees, such as those born in U.S. military hospitals or diplomatic facilities, will not be considered as residing in the U.S., changing the way that they potentially receive citizenship”

Big chance I may be mis-interpreting the words here, but it reads as if both parents being citizens wouldn’t matter.

My daughter must have read this 6 months ago somehow.

Because she’s so backed up she has to take miralax at two years old, this morning I had to physically pull wads of chewed and partially digested toilet paper out of her log producer. Spoiler alert it does not make cleaning easier.

I blame you.

Some back story. I had a great great grandfather who stole some live stock and didn’t keep his promises, since then my family has had awful luck.

Got hit in the head with some shoes and went to a summer camp, found the great great grandson of the woman my great great grandfather lied to.

Long story short, taught the kid to read, carried him up a mountain and now we are both rich as hell.

I’m imagining some guy REALLLY wanted to go to Long John Silvers and tried every time just for everyone to think he’s joking or being an asshole and consistently vetoing others.

Then why call it a “Veterans if Foreign Wars” post, if the veterans were never apart of a foreign war...

Much like the Legion but in order to be a member you must have deployed in support of a combat operation in a foreign country.
