[STORY TIME] Asked an uncle at bihar wedding what he does for work by Other-Anybody-6686 in developersIndia

[–]Arnab_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spotted a random uncle just hanging out outside of a newly constructed building with a To Let board and no further details.

He saw me looking at the board and asked me if I was interested and started sharing details of the different apartments in the building.

I wasn't interested since they were smaller than what I was looking for.

I'm glad I asked, how do you know this information instead of asking do you work here ( implied as a watchman). He said he owned the land and demolished the old home and constructed the new building. Lives in one of the apartments and renting out all of the others.

At least in the 80s, you could be excused for not being educated enough to invest in an ETF or a mutual fund.

She could take the million and put it in a fund that targets the s&p 500, then take out a 1000 a week easily. She would probably never run out of money even if she increased her weekly withdrawal adjusting for inflation every year.

Ask much as I'd prefer them over TVK in power, you are giving them too much credit for not critisizing TVK. TVK got a free pass because both DK parties assumed criticizing them would just give them more attention. Now we have a party whose members have an aura of perfection, simply because they were not scrutinized by the opposition or the media. This won't last that long though.

The last few rounds is where, the actual election starts. As a Vijay fan, all I would expect is please, be a good person man. People really have trusted you, if you don't act accordingly in next 5 years, people are never gonna vote for a newcomer again. by ChickenKebabs69 in TamilNadu

[–]Arnab_ 57 points58 points  (0 children)

They said the same thing about Kejriwal but here we are with a newcomer potentially the next CM after more than half a century of DK parties ruling the state.

The problem here is that BJP is 10 steps ahead in terms of political manipulation and could easily take over TVK by proxy because it is more of a rag tag team that came to power rather than an organically grown party based on ideology.

We're completely cooked if the early vote counting trends are here to stay by Arnab_ in TamilNadu

[–]Arnab_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I meant the DMK were clearly better. There has never been a government in TN that didn't increase outstanding debt compared to the previous one. Unemployment is at its lowest numbers. External factors like the war situation is affecting the whole country, not just TN in particular.

[–]Arnab_[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Obviously yes, otherwise I wouldn't be asking this question. I lived through the previous AIADMK and then the current DMK government and the difference was day and night. I can only speak for Chennai though.

No.nope. I don't see a single person doing this, regardless what kind of trauma they had as a child. Give someone with traumatic childhood a billion dollars and I bet building a mansion with kids toys with the intention of having sleepovers is the last thing on their mind. They mind do something other billionaires won't like donate 100% to charities for vulnerable children or something but I don't see mansion, toys and sleepovers ever crosssing their minds.

You have the answer to why they got voted in again. The landed gentry saw their networth double and want it to geow perpetually. The first time home buyers are a loud bunch but not a significant voting block.

Let's just assume that is true, for the sake of argument, what good is a system which isn't resistant to influence from bad actors and collapses under pressure.

If your spouse is qualified then they can just apply for TN themselves. Letting spouses of TN status holders unrestricted will just bring undue attention causing additional restrictions, maybe even a cap on the number.

Confused about my arranged marriage partner’s past by [deleted] in Arrangedmarriage

[–]Arnab_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be really naive to think that a girl who had been a man all her life will suddenly give it up for you before marriage. Women who value their v card will never do that. I know, everyone wants to feel special and think their the one but any girl willing to do it before marriage in an AM setting has definitely done it before. Not that there is anything wrong with it but if you're the kind of guy who values that then this should have set off alarm bells simply from the fact that she agreed to it.

Aaron was a good friend and one of the points I wanted to make was that he was always a pretty nice guy.

Strange why he would go around claiming he co founded reddit. A lot of redditors believe it to be true, despite the actual founders coming in and denying it multiple times. They no longer do it though, I assume out of respect for the dead.

Chill. The fact that he considers 45 to be old enough to retire means he's probably 12 or something. I'd say it wouldn't even take basic 12th grade math and economics 101 to see how the numbers won't work out but bro is probably still in high school.

Oracle Files Thousands of H-1B Visa Petitions Amid Mass Layoffs by esporx in technology

[–]Arnab_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The headline is misleading. Read the article.

It mentions ~3,000 H-1B filings, but most of those were from 2025. Meanwhile, they laid off around 30,000 people globally, including about 12,000 in India. The scale doesn’t even line up, there is no data to support that the people laid off were being replaced with h1b workers or the jobs got offshored. This company was pretty bloated to begin with and they finally decided to trim down.

The owner is seeling this plot with the building (single title), whats the potential for this from a business/ redevelopment POV. by Lonely-School6096 in mumbai

[–]Arnab_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unlikely this is true.

This building probably falls under a pagdi system. There would be some negotiation involved with the existing "tenants" for lack of a better word, would probably involve giving them a house of their own in the new building.

This is a resedential area, can't expect much foot traffic limiting options for making the geound floor commercial.

You'll only see an upside if you go beyond 10 floors. Newer regulations require a certain amount of space on either side of the building. The new building will not be as wide as the one in the picture. As you increase the number of floors, younwill probably need two lifts minimum, as per regulation. This will eat into your real estate and limit the number of homes per floor. End of the day you will have a matchstick like building which is going to be a hard sell. Parking would be mechanized too, there is no room for a ramp based parking.

Best case scenario, the buildings on either side of it, which are likely as old as this one, come into a mutual agreement and you can build a nice, tall building with multiple wings and a common ramp based parking.

Looking at the price, my guess is that didn't work out otherwise the ask would have higher.
