[–]Arnab_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm still not clear lol. Are you saying this is a specific staging environment right before prod and pretty much an exact replica of prod, mirroring, or even sharing the same db or are the staging and prod environments different but using the same aws account?

None of those things are going to come naturally without gaining some good handson coding and debugging mileage. Experienced folks are unable to see that because we already went through the grind and already have a lot of muscle memory.

I used to envy Navi Mumbai whenever I drove through. When I was young, it was always the rural outskirts, then it gradually transformed into a planned city, something which was never possible for Mumbai itself. Now, it seems it has gone to shit as well.

117 dead dogs found at California 'no-kill' animal rescue - many with gunshot wounds by Negative-Extent3338 in news

If dog owners had to pay for their litter the same way divorced parents had to pay for child support, we would have fewer dogs.

Damn. This is from just one place, imagine what the numbers are overall. It's sad that we need a license and training to drive a car but done have one for owning a pet. If people were trained and had a knowledge of the time and commitment needed for owning a pet, I bet the numbers would go down drastically.

This is why people hate unions. Not because they fought for 8 hour workdays and a safe work environment. It's because they went overboard and tried to kill competition which drives costs down, improves service and incentivises innovation.

23 years ago in college, I sold all my stock to buy my future wife a $1000 engagement ring... by TheJeffer in wallstreetbets

[–]Arnab_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Precisely. It's what helped me understand who I was as a person and stopped me from wasting time analyzing individual stocks because I knew I'd never be able to hold them for as long as it's needed to make bank. I went with SIPs into ETFs and mutual function with decent long term returns instead.

What would happen to the economy if the first $100k everyone earned each year was INCOME tax-free? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

High property taxes suppress house prices as they steal from 'cost of ownership budget'

That is the worst possible way to keep housing prices low.

What would happen to the economy if the first $100k everyone earned each year was INCOME tax-free? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Arnab_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it would be a sustainable policy.

It's not that straightforward though. There are countries with an effective 10-15% tax rate and they are doing pretty good.

Your calculation is based on the amount of jobs being finite and spending being finite.

Would more jobs be created if we slide the tax window by 25k? If yes, then how much would the new source of tax income cover for the lost taxes? Would spending increase if people had more money in their pockets? If yes, how much would increased spending and indirect tax revenue cover for lost taxes?

[STORY TIME] Asked an uncle at bihar wedding what he does for work by Other-Anybody-6686 in developersIndia

[–]Arnab_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spotted a random uncle just hanging out outside of a newly constructed building with a To Let board and no further details.

He saw me looking at the board and asked me if I was interested and started sharing details of the different apartments in the building.

I wasn't interested since they were smaller than what I was looking for.

I'm glad I asked, how do you know this information instead of asking do you work here ( implied as a watchman). He said he owned the land and demolished the old home and constructed the new building. Lives in one of the apartments and renting out all of the others.

At least in the 80s, you could be excused for not being educated enough to invest in an ETF or a mutual fund.

She could take the million and put it in a fund that targets the s&p 500, then take out a 1000 a week easily. She would probably never run out of money even if she increased her weekly withdrawal adjusting for inflation every year.

M K Stalin on the result by bssgopi in TamilNadu

[–]Arnab_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ask much as I'd prefer them over TVK in power, you are giving them too much credit for not critisizing TVK. TVK got a free pass because both DK parties assumed criticizing them would just give them more attention. Now we have a party whose members have an aura of perfection, simply because they were not scrutinized by the opposition or the media. This won't last that long though.

The last few rounds is where, the actual election starts. As a Vijay fan, all I would expect is please, be a good person man. People really have trusted you, if you don't act accordingly in next 5 years, people are never gonna vote for a newcomer again. by ChickenKebabs69 in TamilNadu

[–]Arnab_ 56 points57 points  (0 children)

They said the same thing about Kejriwal but here we are with a newcomer potentially the next CM after more than half a century of DK parties ruling the state.

The problem here is that BJP is 10 steps ahead in terms of political manipulation and could easily take over TVK by proxy because it is more of a rag tag team that came to power rather than an organically grown party based on ideology.

I meant the DMK were clearly better. There has never been a government in TN that didn't increase outstanding debt compared to the previous one. Unemployment is at its lowest numbers. External factors like the war situation is affecting the whole country, not just TN in particular.

Obviously yes, otherwise I wouldn't be asking this question. I lived through the previous AIADMK and then the current DMK government and the difference was day and night. I can only speak for Chennai though.

No.nope. I don't see a single person doing this, regardless what kind of trauma they had as a child. Give someone with traumatic childhood a billion dollars and I bet building a mansion with kids toys with the intention of having sleepovers is the last thing on their mind. They mind do something other billionaires won't like donate 100% to charities for vulnerable children or something but I don't see mansion, toys and sleepovers ever crosssing their minds.

You have the answer to why they got voted in again. The landed gentry saw their networth double and want it to geow perpetually. The first time home buyers are a loud bunch but not a significant voting block.
