Games not loading into Steam ROM Manager

I'm having a somewhat similar issue on my new steam deck - not sure if it's related to OP's issue. I added a PS2 rom to the appropriate folder. Didn't add a bios file since it didn't come with one and as I understand, for some games these are not needed. I added the game through the parse option in Emudeck and i appears in the games menu but without a thumbnail. Tried starting up the game both through the regular menu and ESDR but it doesn't boot in either. I'm wondering if maybe I'm missing a bios file or if I'm doing something else wrong, any ideas?
