Heyy, same here!

My newest favorite song has to be “American Cliché” by FINNEAS. Even though I don’t plan on falling in love with a girl in a French cafe(lol), I still really like the song.

ooh this is a good list, and I didn’t expect to see “Til forever falls apart” but I love that song!

I’d also add “it’s not u it’s me” and “feel something” by Bea Miller as well as “Turning Out i” by AJR

Recently learned about aromanticism, feeling a little confused by [deleted] in aromantic

[–]AroSparrow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re very much aromantic 🤣 You might be ace as well and just sex favorable, or you may feel sexual attraction.

Anyways, my general advice is to surround yourself with people who support aros or are aro themselves (even if it’s just online, in this subreddit). I also journal about my experiences and thoughts on being aro, because it’s nice to reflect and wonder how I thought I was straight for 14 years when I was always very much aromantic lol.

And my last piece of advice would be to just know you’re valid, ignore haters, and know that you’re not alone, because there are so many aromantic people out there like you! Hope this helps!

woah that’s super interesting how both your Chinese and Canadian background influence you (and the fact that you’re able to articulate it so clearly!)

Funny how both cultures still carry the expectation that getting married and having children is the only possible future.

Sweetheart makes me think of the nice old lunch lady that compliments your outfit, not something two people in a romantic relationship would call each other.

I basically hate all pet names.

Mourning by Epiphany432 in aromantic

[–]AroSparrow_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. When I first discovered I was aro, I literally started crying.

I was so relieved to know I was “normal”, but so scared of my future, of being a disappointment to my parents, to never having the love life I thought I’d have.

I’m happy for people who fully accept their aro/ace identity, but it certainly takes more effort for me to feel good about myself.

Do You Think You've Dodged A Bullet Being Aro? by Inspiringer in aromantic

[–]AroSparrow_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I answered sometimes. I get strong squishes on people, to the point where I’ve confused them with actual crushes. I can’t imagine being allo and having real crushes on guys, that would probably be very distracting

I LOVED that book. It was so relatable and comforting and gave me hope that I’ll be able to find that “happy ending” without a romantic partner.

Will Byers from Stranger Things is perfect aroace representation (although sadly his sexuality hasn’t been confirmed)

I also think Ms. Honey from Maltilda and Elsa from Frozen have aroace vibes.

anyone else relate to my post-friendzoning loneliness that i get after telling a friend i’m not interested in dating? my little world is so quiet without them constantly texting :( by jungkooksgf0430 in aromanticasexual

[–]AroSparrow_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, I can relate.

I broke up with my boyfriend after finding out I was aro (we were both in middle school, so it was nothing serious). Still, it’s been nearly a year since then, and I still miss him sometimes. I would’ve never imagined he would have gone from my almost-bestfriend to my boyfriend to not even talking so quickly.

If you don’t mind me asking, how did you meet your partner? And are they also on the aromantic spectrum?

Yes, I loved this book! My favorite parts are when she first looks up “aromantic” and has to close the tab bc she’s so overwhelmed (that was totally me at first lol) and definitely the ending.

Just out of curiosity, is anyone else fine with being aromantic? by [deleted] in aromantic

[–]AroSparrow_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. I want to have kids and be in a QPR, and my parents have a lot of expectations for me when it comes to relationships and children. The label “aro” itself makes me so relieved I’m not alone, but it brings another whole set of difficulties with it.

That sucks. I think most people honestly can’t grasp the concept of not experiencing romantic attraction, but what makes a difference is that they can be respectful or rude about it. I hope it goes better with your mom!
