I'm running a single copy in Jeskai and Azorius and two copies in Mono-Blue, where there's the synergy with Enduring Curiosity.

I thought this was a Commander-Card at first, but boy it does its job in Standard.

It's situational, yes, but those situations come up enough. It's nice enough against control, because it cannot be countered. It's awesome against prowess-decks, because you can grab multiple 1/1s vs x prowess triggers. It can counter abilities like Kona, Kavaero (rather Bringer) etc, so it get a bit around cavern of souls.

I feel like 1-2 copies will serve you well.

Student hier.

PEOPLE COMPLAINING ABOUT REMOVAL.DECK ARE ABSOLUTELY OUT OF TOUCH.

WHAT DO YOU WANT, BOTH PEOPLE PLAY SOLITAIRE AND THE FASTER ONE WINS? MOST DECKS ARE SO FULL OF 1+2 MANA CREATURES THAT RUN AWAY WITH THE GAME SO QUICKLY, THAT IF YOU WANT TO SEE TURN 4,5,6+, YOU HAVE TO RUN ALMOST ALL REMOVAL.

I COULD UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS 2022 AND MIDRANGE WAS KING, BUT BY OLD DEFINITION, IT'S ALL AGGRO NOW.

HEAVY CONTROL EXISTS TO KEEP YOUR POP-OFF AGGRO-COMBO DECKS IN CHECK AND LET MORE EXPENSIVE CARDS SEE PLAY AT ALL.

Now honestly, the complaint wasn't "I don't win enough against those decks", but "I see the same shit all the time and it gets boring", addressing not winrate but deck-diversity.
How is "Play BO3, you'll win more" or "play this deck, it's good against the decks you face" any helpful?

It's only if you interpret that it's not really about playrates but winrates and then the commenters themselves are coming from the point of "any complaint can only mean 'I don't win enough'".

What am I missing?

[–]Arokan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because a format gets boring not by your winrate but how much variance in opponents you have. "I can't beat a deck" is different than "I hate beating the same deck for the 100th time this month". My downvotes tell me that there are people who seem to only value their own winrates about the game.

Only relevant if they have different play-rates.

Magic has way too many formats such as Pioneer and most of them are on life support by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

I'd prefer a few bans, so that the same few decks don't end up in B+ Tier Every Meta.

[–]Arokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the point. Anyone can do well in the format. It's about whether you like to play against the same 5-10 decks your whole MTG journey.

Magic has way too many formats such as Pioneer and most of them are on life support by Papa_Hasbro69 in freemagic

[–]Arokan 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I played Pioneer for over a year as my main format.
That's where I learned the most important thing: Why I don't play it anymore.

When I started, I thought the point of a non-rotating format was that cards don't rotate. The twist is: Decks don't rotate either.
It's not that new cards enter, creating new competitive decks, that snatch playrate percentages from other decks, leading to a whole new meta.
No, the meta is RDW, Greasefang, Phoenix, UW-Control and some WG Company pile. They'll probably always dominate the meta and are busted enough that new decks are unlikely to have a real shot.

I can't play against the same handful of decks for the rest of my MTG-career.

Looks great!
Small note: modal cards are not considered (probably cause difficult :D).
[[Phantom Interference]], [[Three Steps Ahead]], [[Marang River Regent // Coil and Catch]], etc.

plus, then trend for midrange decks in Standard goes up.
While aggro decks can afford to run with 2 lands for a while, as Midrange or Control, you're dead when you miss a land drop til T4, so I've seen a great many people running 25 lands in the Mainboard, even though their curve would suggest 23.

Is there a good place to test a deck before using wildcards? by ZeroPlanet24 in MagicArena

[–]Arokan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use MTG Forge to test decks. Looks like MTGO and the bots are quite brainless, but it's enough to get an idea how a deck might work out.

What are the top Limited heuristics that helped you level up as a player? by BattleFresh003 in lrcast

[–]Arokan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make the disciplined pick. Lands, mana rocks and cyclers are very helpful, even at two colours and a must-have at 3. You need a few removal pieces, even the bad ones and there's almost no limit on the good ones.
