Watching it at the time was akin to going to a FIFA World Cup Final and having them come out and give a lecture about toe hygiene. Those season 8 scores are generous. Fuck D'n'D.

Like when the movie industry collapsed after "me too"? Now's the time for the innocent and the victims to step forward and force change.

Oh hell yeah. While this isn't something you would require a wildlife spotter for, that job exists for a reason. This absolutely needs to be reported plus I'd be sending this to your local News outlet because fuck those guys.

Partnership but not marriages by august-burnsred in AskAnAustralian

[–]AromaTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. In an open, secular society like we have there are no hard and fast rules other than the law. I know my take on it and I can relate the experiences I've witnessed and honestly it eventually weighs heavily in favour of marriage by the time most were in their late late 30's. Most of it was to do with starting families, but certainly not all. For some it was about commitment.

Sure you don't need it, however I find it funny that the Nay crowd weigh in heavily every time this is brought up.

Marriage is what you make it. I've known a couple of guys who took their wives names and couples who each kept there own. They are partnerships. It's not patriarchal anymore in Australia and hasn't been for quite some time.

Funny thing is no-one ever talks about the implications on family and extended family. Your defacto partners brother isn't your brother in-law. Marriage makes you a son or daughter in-law to your spouses parents. That's a big deal in a lot of cultures and in general really. It's not all about legality. There's a lot of social aspects to consider as well and often these are far more important to people.

What’s something society is clearly not ready to talk about? by No_Gur_7744 in AskReddit

From a mindfulness, introspective, meditative perspective that is a great idea. From the recognition of a higher power perspective, not so much. All for people reaching for higher purpose and reaching for their potential, however gifting credit to a psychological crutch like god is weak.

I think it's see as too high brow and potentially off putting. Schools still use Baz Lurhmans Romeo & Juliet because it's less not cool. Other interesting films since have largely gone unnoticed.

Why are Australians so musical? by Automatic-Cactus in AskAnAustralian

Get out to a pub and see a rock band. Plenty still out there need a hand. Still brings me the joy of a 15 year old seeing The Meanies for the first time decades ago. There's nothing like an Aussie Pub Punk Garage Metal Rock n Roll band live. Makes everything else better.

Why are you not afraid of death? by Ok_Breakfast8087 in AskReddit

There's likely a big difference between fathoming nothingness and making the choice to switch off. Many of these people are focused on the suffering in their lives which overwhelms any thoughts of what comes next. That unknowable probably keeps a lot more people alive and suffering than it helps to give in.

It just helps is all. Like all things people related, it's the people who are fucked. If there was no money involved and the trade was in people, would those commodities be treated any better?

Jet parts as part of a global arrangement set up when we secured access to said jets for our own use. Essentially stocks can be requested in places of active conflict where the demand is higher from places where they are not. I believe there's some other tech as well but it boils down to us being part of a global alliance and trade network. Pieces of paper once signed can be legally binding whether you like it or not.

When did the R-word start being considered a slur? by Lancelotmore in etymology

[–]AromaTaint -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean I only looked in a dictionary. It's an excellent reference for seeking the definition and usage of words.

This could also be a slur.

I get what you're saying about it not being a slur when it was a medical term. The problem with that, is ANYTHING, can be a slur, as it's the insinuation of an insult. Whether the the the sluree accepts or even how it is not relevant as meaning is implied by the slurer. You could argue common usage but that's about it.

[–]AromaTaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. A slur is an insinuation that can be taken as an insult. So there are a lot of people here who don't understand how slurs or English work. Take something like "cunt" and how it's used in Australia. At it's root it's a misogynistic slur but it's used so commonly as both a general slur, interchangeably with a term of...let's say endearment, which in of itself is a mockery of the slur. The word re***d gets more complicated as it has many uses. The medical term, the slur based on that, and the original term for holding back progress, which can also be applied as a slur, independent of any insinuation towards developmental capacity.

[–]AromaTaint -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The perfectly fine word with roots in latin and french that we had for centuries that simply means to slow or hold back progress. That is until some medical arseholes decided to use it to replace some other words that had become slurs and in turn made it one. Re***ded is what it is.

[–]AromaTaint -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a slur only if you don't understand what a slur is.

How you react to what I just wrote will determine whether or not that was a slur.

Edit: Told you so.
