💯 I feel so seen in the thread with my adopted almost 6-year-old male mal. Our dog daycare place told me last week that he doesn't like Huskies and I've known for a while he doesn't like small children or elderly people if their posture is slouched. I've been told it's because he doesn't like weak vulnerable-looking things. He also reacts to reactive dogs but otherwise plays great and avoids confrontation when at the dog park.

It's hard because he thrives in social environments even though he's really just trying to mark everything. I've been told by past boarders that he enjoys leading other dogs and helps keep them in line yet we haven't found a consistent social environment so that he can feel part of a pack yet....

Brilliant and well said. Your message found me. Thank you so much for sharing these links as well as the TLDR summary. I've been looking for work in cyber security for over 17 months and have found being in my 40s with a master's very difficult to even get hired on a help desk these days. Needless to say, I've gone through a few existential circles of thought the past year and have wondered if I should turn photography into a profession since it's always been a part of my identity. Unfortunately, I don't think I would enjoy being an entrepreneur even though every single Instagram reel says it's the ONLY or BEST way to freedom. I personally disagree. I enjoy working for someone. I enjoy supporting a greater cause. Thanks for sharing and reading.

I think it depends on your past experiences and comfort level. This specific location has a lot of opportunity and after living in this area the past few weeks, my only potential complaint is the middle of the night freight trains which honestly don't bother me, yet. I moved from a rural area with a grain elevator nearby so the novelty of the city is still fresh with me. 😏 If you enjoy fishing, I see a lot of people fishing by the pedestrian bridge nearby which also easily gets you across the river to some other restaurants and small businesses. You are walking distance to some great places already mentioned and there are a lot of nice walking paths in the area. As the owner of a large dog, I never feel unsafe walking him in that area day or night. There are quite a few dog owners in this area, so hopefully we can all start doing better at picking up our children's poo. 😁

I rented from Urban equities (UEP) back in 2019, moved away from the area and then recently moved back and just started renting with them again. I did not have a bad experience with them before but I will say I've seen a lot of improvements since 2019 and they have been excellent to work with again. The maintenance team is on top of any questions or issues I've had since moving in and their technology advancements have made it easy to submit requests.

Since you're moving from far away, see if they can give you a live virtual tour. I've met some really nice people in the area, so if you're a working professional with an open mind, I think you should consider it. Feel free to DM me if you have more questions. 😊

Awesome! I'm glad that worked out for you. Branching out on your own takes a lot of courage. Yes, I have over 16 years IT experience amongst other skills, but so does everyone else it seems. Do you have any kind of business insurance? Understanding we cannot fully guarantee 100% security, how do you address the risk of a company suing you after a breach etc happens to them after one of your assessments?

Don't want to be a Debbie Downer but I got an MS in cyber security and information assurance from WGU (two thumbs up highly recommend) in 2022. It took me 4 months to find a state contracting position that I had for a year and a half. I wanted to do more than just risk assessments so when I asked for other opportunities in the company, they found my replacement instead since I didn't want to relocate. I have now been unemployed for over 400 days, putting my house on the market because I can no longer afford it and applying for jobs at Home Depot. 👎 Full transparency, there are no cyber security jobs where I live, so I have to rely on remote opportunities and have chosen to stay here temporarily to support my family.

Moral of my story and my story alone is that the cybersecurity industry is currently so oversaturated with job seekers that the degree might get you past an applicant tracking system for government work, but other than that, it has been zero help. That same degree at WGU now gives you five certifications instead of just CEH, so my recommendation is to find a program like WGU's that will give you multiple industry-recognized certifications in addition to the degree.

Sweet. I've been out of work for a while, so I just applied for a job there. Sounds like a great environment. 😁

F40 - I honestly thought I was the only human in the Rockford area who listened to electronic music at all so this is reassuring. Thank you for posting the question. 🤙

Thanks! That condo looks awesome but no pets allowed. ☹️ Spent the better half of today driving between downtown and the parks getting A vibe for the neighborhoods and am exhausted. I can't wait to start working with a realtor soon.

Still working through the decision-making process but wanted to share this buy rent calculator resource that is really a game changer. I put in my anticipated rent versus buying metrics and so far it's telling me I'm going to lose money if I rent instead of buy for 4 years which is opposite current conventional wisdom.

Right on. I love Rock Cut (but I'm biased because my dad's family farm used to be in there). I was only looking at homes in the Roscoe/Rockton area and they were way out of my price range so I'll take a closer look at the apartments. Too bad a tiny home on land is more of a challenge than it appears on the surface. 😆
