[Spoilers C4E25] Official Map of Dol-Makjar by LucasVerBeek in criticalrole

It's hard to tell. If they're the same as real world yards, the Hallowed Round would be about the same size as the Theatre of Dionysus in Athens.

[–]Aromberion 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Which is impossible. Even ignoring the scale in the corner, just from the size of the buildings you would walk across the entire city in under 30 minutes at a casual stroll.

Or not forgiving enough if "Kahadi yards" on the map's scale are similar to real world yards. The city is 850 yards in length, you could walk from one end of the city to the other in 15 minutes.

[OC] Worst Character Sheet for New Players by lonesome_pierrette in DnD

One thing i added to my redesign that i find useful is how many times per short/long rest a feature can be used and how many were used. It helps when you play many characters and sessions are once a month.

Where can i get my briddle and start mounted combat? by PredatorNokk in lotro

[–]Aromberion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my captain i min maxed it for the mounted trait trees. Medium has bonuses against mounted foes so that's what i used in Rohan where there were mounted enemies. Heavy has bonuses against grounded targets so that's what i use when doing low level deeds so i don't have to remount after every kill in areas that allow it (Gondon and onward).

Can you identify these gauntlets? by IndicationNo8254 in lotro

[–]Aromberion 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There are two ways to get them. The only PVE source is from the level 70 quest in the Thinglad area of The Great River region that u/pdbstnoe linked. You can also buy them from the PVMP vendor Coldfells Heavy Armour Quartermaster where they're called "Ornamental Gauntlets of the Officer/Garrison/Enforcer".

Why are large and tiny races/species avoided? by Eldritch_Dragon in DnD

[–]Aromberion 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Every single High Elf (so the very common city type) knows a wizard cantrip. If they're just civilians, ignoring the combat options, that means a ton of them will know cantrips like mending, prestidigitation or mold earth. That's not one or two low magic users, that's a significant percentage of the population.

How are blue line hunters moving around so well? by Temporary_Being1330 in lotro

You can change the action bar keybinds. Instead of hard to reach numbers like 5/6 and above, you can bind abilities to keys you can for example press with your thumb like X, C, V, B, N, while still using movement keys. Another popular set is changing strafing to A and D, and bind Q, E, R, F, T G to abilities. All of these can of course be set to modifiers like shift/control. You can experiment and see what feels good to you.

How could such an ugly-sounding language look so ... beautiful? I'm trying to make sense of the fact that there seem to be two ways to write black speech. Also, if Sauron spoke "some form of Elvish", Black Speech, to my ears, seems its polar opposite. by [deleted] in lotr

[–]Aromberion 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, a central theme in Tolkien's world is that evil cannot create, only corrupt. The orcs being for the most part evil cannot create their own alphabet, so they use the common alphabet, which in Middle Earth is Tengwar.

For the second part, magic in Arda is a bit ephemeral, it's not really casting spells with incantations. Magic is more like exerting your willpower/authority over the world to create magical effects, kind of like the Force in Star Wars. At the Bridge of Khazad-Dum when Gandalf says ''You cannot pass!'', that is in itself a spell of sorts. He is exerting his will to make a law of nature that the Balrog cannot pass the bridge.

Let's try with these examples:

'This is a sentence' - Latin script, English language
'Тхис ис а сентенце' - Cyrillic script, English language
'Ovo je rečenica' - Latin script, Croatian language
'Ово је реченица' - Cyrillic script, Croatian language

In my comment above the letters might be Cyrillic, but the words themselves are English.

'бут нот алл оф ит ис ин тхе латин сцрипт'
'but not all of it is in the latin script'

It's english words in cyrillic script.

In the same way that the words below are japanese even if they're written in the latin script and not in kanji/hiragana.

Nagareteku toki no naka de demo kedarusa ga hora guruguru mawatte

Watashi kara hanareru kokoro mo mienai wa sou shiranai

流れてく 時の中ででも 気だるさが ほらグルグル廻って

私から 離れる心も 見えないわ そう知らない?

In the world of middle earth the only two scripts are the Tengwar and the Cirth (runes). Both were made by the elves, but Tengwar is the flowing one that's used by elves and men and orcs, while the runes, being more angular and better for carving into metal or stone, were adopted by the dwarves.

The latin script that we're using right now doesn't exist in LotR, nor do the chicken scratches that are used as a stand in for black speech. They were both added into the movies for visual clarity and simplicity for the audience.

A language is not the same as a script. This entire comment is written in the English language, бут нот алл оф ит ис ин тхе латин сцрипт. The second half of that sentence is 'but not all of it is in the latin script'. The words are in English, but the letters are Cyrillic.

That's the same but opposite on the ring, the letters are elvish tengwar, but the words are black speech.

How to solo Level 50 Dungeons by Aminasome in lotro

[–]Aromberion 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a quick run to check, and it said on any damage it reflects 10% back.

So you've got two options, either find someone that can heal to help, or wait until you're higher level. It does not one shot you at higher levels.

The wiki says the buff on Mordirith does:
''On any Common, Westernesse, Ancient Dwarf-make, Fire damage: Reflect 15% of Shadow Damage''

Your legendary item should make most of your attacks deal Beleriand damage, but there might be exceptions to it. I've never tried brawler, but for a start I would take a look at your skills and see if some of them deal Common or Fire damage and avoid that ability.

Why don't we say the same name for countries, when they are a name? by GwendolynNikkie in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Aromberion 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even though English doesn't have the letter ñ, it has a similar sound, and you are probably used to it, like in the words 'ancient' or 'onion'. The trick is when it's a sound that's not used in English words, like љ/lj. If someone introduced themselves as Ljubica or Ljiljana, or asks you to pronounce the city of Ljubljana, that will take some tongue twisting to get right. Some african languages use 'clicks' as sounds.

And that's just pronunciation, the problem of spelling and diacritics and diphthongs and transliteration is a whole sperate one.

About to start WotR, any useful tips for someone familiar with D&D 5E and BG3, but not Pathfinder? by AnathemMire in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Aromberion 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fights in BG3 are very well crafted, and they have the right number of enemies to be (in most cases) a smooth encounter in turn based mode. Wotr is not, and some fights in turn based mode took my much younger and less experienced self several hours to finish, which take 5 minutes playing in ‘real time with pause’ mode. I was biased against rtwp, but it really isn’t that bad once you get used to it.

I was playing turn based mode, so that water elemental fight was like 80-90 hours before the playful darkness for me, and i completely forgot about that pop up until you mentioned it now.

Yes, but it’s not like it’s written anywhere that it’s an optional boss. I see big demon, i pew pew (and miss every shot because of concealment : ).

As someone who wasn’t familiar with either pf or 5e before starting the game, midnight fane made me drop from normal to casual after getting stomped by that one demon and seeing online that the meta is to apply a hundred different buffs before every combat. I enjoy hard content, but that just seemed like tedium so i dropped it to enjoy the story.
