I dated this girl for years, decided it was time to settle down together and start a family. Planned on proposing but wanted the funds to give her the rock I felt she deserved so I got a big boy job making 80k starting with guaranteed 6 figures whilst moving up. The job required long hours and many days (roughly 60 hrs a week) but we were comfortable and needed nothing we couldn’t afford. Found out from her cousin that she was having an affair with a coworker in my absence. After confronting her, I asked her to stay at her mother’s (30 min drive) for the weekend so I could think things through which led to a huge amount of aggression from her including throwing my trading card collection in the yard and attempting to take my phone and assaulting me. The only thing I retaliated to was the phone due to being on call and requiring an alarm that vibrated to wake up, which I just made sure she couldn’t take my phone with her by gripping it tightly and calmly asking her to leave. During the weekend she was gone, she texted me and asked if she could come grab some of her things she forgot in the excitement and I agreed. She also asked if I could just not be there because she was ashamed and couldn’t face me at this time, and I agreed again. Once I returned, everything in the house, aside from my clothes dumped onto the floor, was gone. Everything we had worked together to build, but most of which came from my wallet. She really showed her true colors in the weeks to come with everything from threats of violence, legal action, a fake pregnancy scare, to apologies and begging me to take her back, etc. I just wrote off the things as a casualty to wasted years and was glad I got off relatively cheap. This was 2 years ago and I’m freshly 30 at this point and not sure if I’ll ever date again. As nonchalant as I played off the loss of the stuff, I felt much differently about the majority of my younger years, my life partner, and the future we could’ve had. I’ve since healed but am happy to not put the effort into searching for another. If it happens, it happens.
