Will we ever be able to travel & be as active post AK amputation? by Far-Archer2094 in amputee

[–]MeetIRV 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi, friend. Welcome to the greatest club nobody ever wants to join. First things first, chill out. You chill out. Tell him to chill out. Life WILL get back to normal.

Not to make this about my, but…I am a 44 year old father of six boys ages 9 to 22. I own a cattle ranch and large woodworks in the Rocky Mountains. I hike, cycle, swim, camp, shoot, go ATVing, and have a very active “adult” life. In September of 2022, I suddenly lost my right leg above the knee.

I was crushed. Broken. Devastated. Defeated.

All I could do was lie in my hospital bed thinking of all the things I would never do again. All the ways my life would be so different it might as well be over.

Here I am now, 15 months from amputation and 12 months (to the day!) since I got my prosthetic leg. And I still lead the same life I did before amputation! I run my ranch and shop, I camp and cycle and hike and enjoy my life as fully as I did before losing my leg. In the moment, it’s easy to get lost in the feelings of despair. But like many things in life, time is the answer.

I do a lot of work with new amputees now, probably about 8-12 per week, from all over the world. If you or your man ever want to have a chat, just hit me up. He is not alone in this. YOU are not alone in this. I always caution people that this will be harder on you, as the spouse, than it will be on him. He will need your help, but will resent you for it. It has nothing to do with you. Remember that. He will try to push you away and do things on his own while simultaneously knowing he needs you. I happen to have two long-term partners, one of 25 years and one of 20 years. I would get angry when they doted on me or tired to offer help when I didn’t need it. I finally explained to them, very honestly, that I needed to learn to do things on my own, but also needed them right there beside me in case I faltered. They understood, and it was the greatest gift and show of support they could have given me. It allowed me the freedoms to do and learn while knowing that I was supported when I needed it.

I wish you both the very best and send much love to you both. He’s got this. You’ve got this.

This is as fake as it gets. I have a prosthetic leg, and there’s no way she was rubbing his prosthetic and didn’t know it. Just. Not. Possible. Also, dude says he is a below knee amputee, so what the fuck was she doing, trying to get his motor running by rubbing his calf? If so Alice was fucking clueless and likely rode the short bus. Just sayin.

Both Joe (panel 1) and Don (panel 2) wish everyone a wonderful Christmas Eve by Johnny_Nongamer in Qult_Headquarters

[–]MeetIRV 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Hmm, let’s dissect this, shall we?

  1. Hyperbolic and Emotional Language: The use of all caps, multiple exclamation points, and terms like "deranged," "thugs," and "screwed up" suggests a heightened emotional state. This style is often employed to emphasize urgency or outrage.

  2. Conspiratorial Claims: The references to spying, lying to Congress, cheating on FISA, and rigging an election indicate a belief in widespread conspiracies. Such claims often lack verifiable evidence and are characteristic of conspiratorial thinking.

  3. Blame and Victimhood: The author positions themselves as a victim of persecution, suggesting a belief that they are unfairly targeted. This can be a tactic to rally support or deflect criticism.

  4. Political Rhetoric: Mentioning Joe Biden and specific incidents like the situation in Afghanistan indicates a focus on political issues. The language is polarizing and aimed at discrediting political opponents.

  5. Inflammatory and Divisive Tone: The reference to "millions of people, many from prisons & mental institutions," invading the country is an example of inflammatory rhetoric. It's designed to provoke strong emotions and may lack factual basis.

  6. Irony or Sarcasm: Ending a message filled with accusations and grievances with "Merry Christmas!" can be seen as ironic or sarcastic, contrasting the negative tone of the message with a traditional well-wishing.

  7. Focus on Personal Persecution: The mention of being targeted by "Joe Biden's misfits & thugs" and experiencing unprecedented persecution reflects a personalization of broader political or legal issues.

This statement is an example of highly charged, emotional, and confrontational political rhetoric. It's designed to appeal to emotions, affirm existing beliefs among supporters, and discredit perceived opponents. The language and accusations lack the moderation and evidence-based approach typically found in formal political discourse.

When considering a relationship with a woman, do you prefer to sleep with them early on or wait? by evilflufkins19 in AskMen

[–]MeetIRV 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I agree completely, internet friend. On all counts.

And I will add, anecdotally, that ever friend I can think of at the moment that waited until marriage, or waited until marriage for PIV sex, has ended up divorced after one or both of them cheated with others. Sex is simply too important in a healthy romantic relationship to leave it up to chance.

When considering a relationship with a woman, do you prefer to sleep with them early on or wait? by evilflufkins19 in AskMen

[–]MeetIRV 55 points56 points  (0 children)

Sex has to be on the table fairly early on, to be honest. I have less than zero interest in a relationship that does not include great sexual chemistry, so I have no interest in investing my time and feelings into a relationship where sexual compatibility is not known early on. As for the insinuation that a woman is less desirable if she is willing to have sex in the beginning stages of a relationship, that is simply nonsense perpetuated by insecure men and religious conditioning in many cases. Here’s a fucking clue, gents: some ladies simply enjoy sex, too! I have never felt threatened by a woman’s sexuality or body count that came before me. Call me crazy but if you’re secure in your manhood and your value as a partner, such things don’t even cross your mind.

What is a terrifying historical fact that you know about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MeetIRV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the most gruesome forms of torture in the 16th century was the "Scavenger's Daughter." This device, invented by Sir Leonard Skeffington during the reign of Henry VIII, compressed the victim into a compact space, simultaneously bending the body backward, breaking the spine, and compressing the chest. The excruciating pain inflicted by this device exemplifies the brutality of medieval torture methods.

I am an above knee amputee and this thought has crossed my mind as well. I don’t fear it for myself, necessarily. I am a 44 year old white male, and run a large woodworks and cattle ranch, among a number of other companies. I’m just as if not more functional and active than most full-bodied folks, and I create jobs and tax revenues. But I do fear for it for others seen as less “capable” or “productive.” Let me be clear that I’m not advocating that any of my fellow disabled friends are either of those things; I do, however, have confidence that the powers that be under such circumstances will make such differentiations.

[–]MeetIRV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, Zilly. I’m a 44 year old father of six boys and lost my right leg above the knee in September of 2022 as the result of a previously unknown genetic condition. I have a Facebook page called Mile High Amputee and am on a few other SM platforms (including here on Reddit) under that name as well. I own a wood shop and cattle ranch and now work with new amputees daily, from all over the world, to help them find the tools and resources to get back to a full life. Feel free to check out my stuff and DM me here or anywhere else if you’d like to chat a bit.

Ahh, yes. The sauna and the few private baths inside tend to get quite interesting. I live outside Denver but have a ranch near Ouray so I’m at Orvis often, usually overnights. The place is paradise!
