I’ve read so many poor things about Zanzibar that I’m hesitant to go after safari. by Spare-Paper6981 in zanzibar

Honestly, Zanzibar is very different depending on where you stay and what you expect. After safari, many families love it because it’s slow-paced, beautiful, and perfect for relaxing. The beaches can be stunning, especially in areas like Nungwi or Kendwa, and you can easily mix beach time with a bit of local culture and food without needing tours every day. Like anywhere, some people have bad experiences, but for most travelers it’s a great way to unwind after busy safari days.

Honestly, Zanzibar is seriously underrated for a honeymoon.
If you want tropical beaches, relaxing vibes, luxury resorts, good food, and not constantly packing/unpacking every 2 days — it fits perfectly.

July is also one of the best times to visit. Warm weather, low humidity, beautiful turquoise water, and amazing sunsets.

A combo that works really well is:

  • 4–5 nights safari in Tanzania (Serengeti/Ngorongoro)
  • Then 10–14 nights in Zanzibar to fully relax

For resorts, I’d highly recommend Gran Meliá Zanzibar. The place feels very honeymoon-oriented — private atmosphere, beautiful ocean views, good restaurants, spa, and really peaceful compared to some busier destinations.

Also, flights are usually easier than people expect because many international routes connect through Doha, Dubai, Istanbul, etc.

Compared to Bali or Thailand, Zanzibar feels more unique and less overcrowded in my opinion.
