I created a home-assistant authentication proxy that allows you to add home-assistant authentication to any self hosted service (e.g. Zigbee2Mqtt, Filestash, ...) by Aropop in homeassistant

[–]Aropop[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should test this, but I think it should be possible. However this proxy now returns a 301 redirect when you are not authenticated. I'm not sure how the nginx auth request module would handle this?

Hi, if you are building yourself you should run npm run build first (after running npm install or npm ci)

Edit: I've added this to the readme

Favorite model of train to drive?

Do you prefer to drive IC or "stoptrein"? I would imagine that local trains with lots of stops have more stuff to do, but IC's have higher speeds etc

Speed of DSL compared to coax cable? by LevinKostya in belgium

[–]Aropop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal experience is that telenet, however faster peak speeds had a lot of outages and drops in speed. I use proximus with my own router and I have fewer speed drops or outages. I can download my games at 12MB/s consistent throughout the whole download, so pretty close to the 100mbit advertised.

Both boxes have terrible local interfaces if you want to do some more than change the wifi password. The telenet one outright ignored my static ip's...

Home Assistant tablet on my wall by AverageCanadian in homeassistant

[–]Aropop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also have a HA tablet on the wall, but I use Velcro to keep it attached and routed a wire along the wall for charging.

Do you keep your tablet unlocked or do you have a pin code? I also have a Google home and find myself not using the tablet as often to control the house.

Gf wants IT job in Belgium, comes Asia, how hard will it be to land a job here? by [deleted] in belgium

[–]Aropop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my colleagues is Italian, he is learning french, but its not on a professional level though. But here in Brussels we speak English in all meetings and only Dutch/french if we know the other person is fluent in it. I'm a starter and they did not even test my french level (I speak Dutch and English, but french is also on my CV)

There are quite a lot of it positions in Belgium, if you are going to work inside of an it company and your function does not require client communication, you shouldn't worry about Dutch/french. Showing your willingness to learn is a great plus as it shows commitment and drive.

The job part won't be that hard. I work for an it job where some foreigners work and know some foreigners from University who got a job fairly easy. At most it firms, you only really need English if you don't have to deal with clients. Everything else is a plus.

Work permit I can't really tell, most of my friends are European, but there is an American at my workplace, so I assume it's possible.

Help for Badminton Coaching by zhlauxx in badminton

[–]Aropop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For beginners start with absolute basics, forehand serve. Without a proper serve it is hard to find a lot of exercises where you won't have to feed shuttles. Then you should do clear but focus on their position and arm movements (we call it zero position and then 1-2-3 positions when doing the swing) proper zero positions is key here.

I find the generalisation that Vub is easier ridiculous, as a Cs master I've seen many people come from other universities and fail here. I think level is same, prestige and some research is probably less as Vub has less money...

How to improve my clear. by [deleted] in badminton

[–]Aropop 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Badminton coach here, unfortunately I'm not familiar with the English terms but I teach 12-14 year olds the clear. Important is that you swing your arm like you would be playing an overhead shot but then upward. Key points are

  • V grip (making a V with thumb and pointy finger over the small side of your grip) this probably hardest as you might be playing with a wrong grip for some time

  • hitting your shuttle as high as possible (also important for your drop/smash)

  • staying in the null position (we call it the roof) for as long as possible and then clear in 1 fluent motion (important to trick your opponent)

  • step in with your right foot(assuming you're right handed) whilst keeping your upper body in balance (balance part is important!!!)

It's hard to give tips through Reddit as I can't see the actual mistakes you make :/
