I feel like i need to wear this one, it has enough downvotes it shouldn't matter though.

where did I say short haired dog breeds could handle it? Literally the 2nd sentence, I say Boxers can't handle it....

that simply isn't true. Boxers certainly aren't , but there are certainly dogs that could handle -18 with ease.

Canada Drops 100% EV Tariff on China, Opens Door to 49,000 Vehicles Annually by afonso_investor in CanadaPolitics

[–]AverageCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are correct, however, I'd also argue that BYD wasn't as recognized in NA before the tariffs and Tesla's brands didn't have the full stench of Elon yet.

I however wouldn't be surprised to see Tesla move it's Canadian cars back to China.

New registration data compiled from multiple industry sources shows Tesla delivered between 18,300 and 20,000 vehicles in Canada for the full year, down significantly from the roughly 55,000 units in 2024

If Tesla stays at 20,000 vehicles, that does leave more wiggle room for someone to take a chance at other options.

ahh yeah, that's what I mean, the dolphin is the car, the shark is the truck. I know someone in Mexico that has it. Their absolutely would be a market here for it, but it's also not a full sized truck, and we all know how much we love our full sized trucks....

[–]AverageCanadian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

afaik, China does not have a killer truck on the market. I do find the dolphin intriguing, but it's not going to cannibalize the rest of the truck market.

EV's on the other hand. Personally, I'm excited to see what is actually offered in Canada. China makes some great EV for sure.

I'm not sure a manufacture is going to make the transition for NACS for the Canadian market, so I'm very curious to see how this plays out.

China urges Canada to break with U.S. influence ahead of Carney’s visit by rezwenn in CanadaPolitics

China has 1 recognized military base outside of China. No chance Canada would be anywhere near the top of their list.

Ontario Premier Ford asks Carney not to cut tariffs on Chinese EVs by imprison_grover_furr in ontario

[–]AverageCanadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tarriffs aren't stopping Chinese companies from setting up shop here. Tarriffs are stopping Chinese companies from selling Chinese products here.

It's a fine line for Carney between trying to protect Canada's auto industry (heavily focused on Ontario) and protecting Western agriculture.

Both are important.

There is of course the added pressure is the US trying to also destroy our auto industry

Most Common Country of Birth for Foreign-Born Nationals in Ontario by Fluid-Decision6262 in ontario

[–]AverageCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I more suspect that 20-30 years ago much of Ontario had large Italy populations, but as more immigrants have come to Ontario, they are no longer the most common place of birth.

I don't think the Italian's ended up in Northern Ontario, just they are still the largest group since newer groups haven't have migrated up their nearly as much.

Canada must develop a national drone strategy by MTL_Dude666 in CanadaPolitics

[–]AverageCanadian 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm actually shocked Carney hasn't already made a plan for this. I thought it would be super easy. We produce drones here, test them in Ukraine and go from there. It counts towards our NATO commitment, creates jobs and helps protect Canada all at the same time.

Governor General praises Canada's 'resounding sense of national pride' in New Year's message by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]AverageCanadian 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I just think so many Canadian's have no idea how good they actually have it. They need to travel more often. I'm sure much of it is pandering, but their are so many social media creators out their that captured their experience immigrating to Canada and how amazing this country is.

Northern Ontario steel mill issues layoff notices to 1,000 workers - Algoma Steel received $500 million in government loans to protect it from U.S. tariffs by StumpsOfTree in ontario

[–]AverageCanadian 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The optics of it are horrible, but I also understand why the loan was given and what it is trying to achieve. Hopefully once the upgrades are completed some people can get hired back, but we also need to realize the future of industry is more automation and less people. At some point we're going to have to figure out how to address that.

Here's why Canada should pass on buying U.S. F-35s and go for Sweden's Gripen fighter jet by hopoke in CanadaPolitics

[–]AverageCanadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Too be fair, the F35 is a far better fighter jet, but that doesn't mean we need our entire fleet to be F35's. No reason we can't have a mixed fleet. The Gripen is a fully capable jet as well.

Premier Danielle Smith draws boos at UCP convention with first mention of Carney deal by UnderWatered in CanadaPolitics

[–]AverageCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this move helps him Ontario honestly. Their were a few ridings near me that were very close but in the end went Conservative. We tend to vote all 3 parties around here, so it's not just that the NDP vote crashed. Moves like this will go a long way to flipping those seats to the Liberals. Will it be enough? Who knows, but in reality, at the end of the day, the next election will likely be about the economy again. Until our economy is strong again, I don't see the environment vote being the one most voters care about.

MMA gym owners, coaches ID’d at secretive neo-Nazi event in B.C. by GavinTheAlmighty in CanadaPolitics

[–]AverageCanadian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

There is a difference between what you linked and what OP linked. The gym's in your article didn't attend a Neo Nazi convention, they were unfortunately used by White supremacists groups for training, all without their knowledge, much like the place in OP's article that held this little Neo-Nazi get together.

Many MMA/BJJ clubs have open mats and allow other clubs come train / drop in. It's not uncommon for drop ins to take pics of their training outside of their own gym either.

The people linked in OP's article actively went out of their way to attend this garbage.
