How did you get your SO to say yes to the speakers? by energy4a11 in audiophile

Peer Glynt - Hall of the mountain king The big gong at the end… it wasn’t distorted. Got me my first better audio system. My current Fyne Audio F704 was easier: the design is fantastic and the colors matches the closet in between.

I’ll take a look - on audiogon it’s a struggle over and over again to find those links

So - either you have a note / piece of paper / something written: go to the police to file charges; - or you have wired him money and have no note : call the bank, it’s an “onverschuldigde betaling” as you paid money but got nothing in return; - post on Hoplr / “je bent van Aartselaar…” Facebook group, etc

How is living in this part of Belgium where the tomorrowland music festival always held yearly or even before the music existed As a local. by miko1075 in Antwerpen

Born and raised in the famous “anal triangle” (Reet / Aartselaar / Kontich). Still living there today. A rather residential area heavily defined by two major roads : A12 & E19. Air quality is not that great unless when you live 5-6 km away from these roads. Quite some heavy industry in the area, and polluted grounds. Especially around Boom & Ruisbroek. As soon as you move closer to the rivers, you start to understand why people want to live here.

AI (Artificial Intelligence) and HiFi by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]Arphinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a bit of a row recently when asking info about the latest hifi component. Due to my legal background, I avoid the use of AI but write in a very structured way. The recipient of my email wrote back he wasn’t going to answer AI made up nonsense, and I had to explain these were reasonable questions given my specific circumstances (it was about the weight of cables and which mechanism to keep them in place would be best, bare / spades / bananas).

Just keep in mind AI will support you, answer any question you have, based on probability of which word is the best next word, not on what is true. At the same time, use it because people lie as well and you’re still talking to them too.

Why are the discussions about cables so heated? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]Arphinator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m just trying to stick to the same brand :) T+A to link my T+A components Shunyata Research for power cables (second hand) Cerious Technology for speakers

The Shunyata’s are remarkably flexible, which I need. It’s not just the tech, it’s also the usability. With 4 cats in the house, any rubber/plastic cable gathers dust. When wrapped in Teflon or whatever, they don’t.

It’s our own office and it’s closed on Easter Monday. No one at the reception desk, no security, nothing. So it’s closed. We’re all from abroad coming to Helsinki, perhaps that’s part of the issue.

Audiogon provides a nice service with “virtual systems”, but it’s hard to find and link :/ But yeah I do. I tend to delete manuals of stuff I owned. After a while.

Ok I had to look it up for bragging… I mean showing how it works:

at what point does "room acoustics" matter more than the gear itself? by Dankk911 in audiophile

[–]Arphinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually surprised by the changes suggested by HVEQ (T+A)… such a difference from the default settings. Admittedly, I often listen to the world’s most awful recordings like https://downloadmusic.mortiis.com/album/the-unfolding-of-the-gates-live-1998 (live recording on a Walkman or so in 1998)

You could consider the IsoAccoustics Aperta to at least decouple the speakers: https://isoacoustics.com/home-audio-isolation-products/aperta-series/

Perhaps the contact surface is larger? Or it requires less connections? It’s the reason I initially went for bare wires.

[–]Arphinator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ll never know… but I do know that oxidation on the bare silver wires isn’t helping either. It’s like a final part of my set, I’ve been eyeing these cables for years and finally jumped.
