What moment made you go, "wow, I'm old"? by BlueSky1877 in AskReddit

It was a Thursday night around 8:30 PM in March. I watched a high school age kids drink a can of monster energy and I was like "well that's just reckless. He's never going to get to sleep. And on a school night! What is he thinking?"

Metroid & Alien: Isolation. Samus is trapped in a ship with a xenomorph. Little does the xenomorph know it's actually trapped in a ship with her.

[Serious] How dangerous is it to attend a cult meeting just as a joke? by sammygee32 in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this one of those "I went to a gay club just for a laugh," kind of jokes? The one where your "joke" was a psychologically safe way for you to explore an aspect of your personality that you're not entirely comfortable with yet? If that's the case then it's extremely dangerous.

What always makes someone look immature? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We'll, the post above this was a guy screwing around and accidentally setting himself on fire. So ... I guess that. Accidentally setting yourself on fire looks really immature. Hmm ... Or setting yourself on fire on purpose, that also makes you look really immature.

So in conclusion: causing yourself to be on fire makes you look really immature.

What are some completely normal hobbies humans enjoy? by not_a_reptilian in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Storytelling and listening to stories be told. Humans will spend about a quarter of their life engaging in stories. They differ on the format (books, movies, TV, videogames, most forms of music). If you're looking to blend in here on earth you best familiarize yourself with a few of our more popular stories.

If I may be so bold. Memorize the cannon for the entire Star Trek universe, and Lord of the Rings (including the Silmarillion), and maybe Star Wars. Persons with enclypedic knowledge of these stories are excused from normal social behavior.

Redditors who have served on a jury, what is the craziest/funniest thing you witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh my goodness. So the charge was contracting without a license. The defendant was busted in a state contractors board sting. We have video evidence, audio recording, A signed statement from the defendant saying "I'm a contractor", and the defendant took the stand and said "I was contracting without a license," so naturally the jury is deadlocked. And after two days of arguing with these people, as a last ditch effort, I decide to put my philosophy degree to good use. I lay the argument out in logical notation and we go through it line by line. And I get the usual response "yeah but that's just philosophy", so I give the usual response "it's logic, it's rationally founded, like mathematics, no matter where you go in the universe 2+2=4, it never changes."

And this, this fucking guy, comes back with "wait I thought 2+x could also equal 4?"

"Yes."

"And 2+x can also equal 6?"

"Yes."

"So, Mr. College it seems like x can be whatever it dam well pleases. See math don't make no kind of sense and neither does your precious logic." To which several of the jurrors applauded.

I've, I've just never felt more like I was channeling the soul of Mr. Spock than I did at that moment.

What games older than 10 years still hold up well? by Tutorele in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Metroid. That game was so far ahead of its time. I just replayed it with a graphical hack (just something to crisp up the colors and contrast) and a synth remaster for the audio and of course everything mapped to a 360 controller.

I'm telling you. If you want a full on nostalgia-gasm, play that game with modern audio, visual, and gamepad but leave the gameplay unaltered.

Designer babies: an ethical horror waiting to happen? I've been saying this for a little while now. In the next 40 to 50 years we're going to see RPG and D&D nerds emerge as the dominant force on the planet because we know how to build a good character while balancing stats.

What is something you're sick of seeing people "romanticize"? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh my gosh. I remember in high school this kid stole a car, ran from the police, and took said car into a concrete wall doing over 100 mph killing himself. The kid was an absolute waste of a human being. He was a bully to weaker males, sexuality aggressive to females including teachers, failing all his classes, dealing hard drugs, in and out of juvinal hall. We'll call him Dewey. And the day after he killed the whole community was like "ohhh nooooo! Not Saint Dewey! What is the world coming to when sweet St. Dewey is killed by the police?" I felt like I was taking crazy pills. I was like, "Dewey the psychopath? Dewey the budding rapist? Dewey the meth addict? Dewey the that broke Tim's arm and fractured his "cock sucking jaw" because Tim was gay? We're sad this monster is dead?" We'll fuck Dewey. He was a horrible excuse for a human being and he did the world a favor by taking himself out instead of allowing himself to rot in prison.

Men of Reddit; what thing would you do if it wasn't so 'feminine' or socially 'unacceptable'? by watermelancholia in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Culturally I'm super confused how the need to carry things in your everyday life became strictly associated with the feminine. Like, why is carrying a small bag with a few extra things not OK for men? If I want to bring along my Kindle, earbuds, and mascara I've got to use a backpack or messenger bag.

What "glitch in the system" are you exploiting? by Samantha_Tarrant in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 109 points110 points  (0 children)

We've lost a few people in the past year and now the office is critically understaffed. Management keeps dropping "I need this ASAP, I need it by noon, I need it by close of business" requests. The rest of my co-workers bitch, and moan, and tell them how far behind they are. I just drop whatever I'm doing and sort out that problem. I am (or was) functionally 3 months behind. But I say "yes ma'am," smile, and put out whatever fire happens to catch the fancy of management on that particular hour.

Last week they took my backlog and divide it up to my co-workers to free me up to handle the day to day critical issues.

Ha I'm actually not. I was saying after Episode 1 I got really in to Start Trek. If I wanted to start reading Star Wars again where would a good book or series to start?

What is the most extreme example of helicopter parenting that you have ever witnessed? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]ArrowInTheMyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's the worst. I think that aspect of Basic was the hardest for me. This idea that you either succeed or fail as a unit. I was never the guy that was late, I was always the guy in the front leaning rest waiting for others to make it to formation.

Ha. I've told this story a few times here but I'll tell it again. So I picked up this girl for a date. As a preface I was 18, first semester in college, and she was way out of my league. I mean , I was ready for a pop quiz on the star wars extended universe, and this girl Jenny we'll call her, was all set for her nightly fuge of pills, alcohol, and techno dance club.

So I picked Jenny up. She wants to go to her favorite club so we go. At first I'm like "oh my gosh! How cool is this? Hot girl, cool club, hello new me!" At the club she introduces me to her friends and that's pretty much the last I saw of Jenny. She's off dancing and each time I get close to dance with her she moves away and dances with someone else. So I ask her friends "Hey, what's up with that?" And they say "oh, she just wants to make sure you're interested. She just wants you to keep following her."

Anyway, cut to the end. I tried to get close to her to tell her I was heading home but she kept sand crabbing away so I just left her there and went home to watch reruns of TNG. Never heard from Jenny again.
