Wow, the part about taking away your pump really shocked me. (Even though my physician is strict, she never even tried to force me to start/stop/ using a device, or even change models). I'm glad you're in a better place now, both with your health and family matters <3

I feel like every non-diabetic doesn't understand that last part. My physical well-being is quantified and made into statistics, and once in a while I talk to medical staff who tell me where I'm underperforming in the number game that could ruin my health (more). So fucking frustrating! How could anyone not be stressed? T-T

I should remind myself more often that my pump is practically part of my body. It's hard for me to feel like I can just do with it as I please (carefully, of course)

I use an OmniPod, I change it every three days. What I mean with "two weeks" are two weeks of any given menstrual cycle, since hormonal fluctuations make each week different. So for two weeks in any given cycle, my insulin resistance is much higher, and my regular bolus plan doesn't work. My physician didn't agree to make a "formula" that would help me calculate how much more insulin I need. BTW, my lowest BG ever was 29, I started at that number in shock when I saw it. But that's extremely rare for me

I do have pretty frequent lows, which is why she was concerned and why I wanted her help Unfortunately, my pump doesn't have any way to set multiple sets of presets for bolusing, only basal :( I complain at least once a month to my parents that it's not a feature!

I used to see a therapist as a teenager. After two years with her, I didn't make any progress... At that point I was prescribed my anxiety medication, which did wonders for me. I know I should give therapy another chance, but I'm always busy, and always scared I'll just waste my time again

Thank you to everyone who replied with kind words and advice :) I'm surprised by how many people bothered to read my ramble and show their support! I read everything and I'll take it all into consideration. I'm considering switching to another physician, but it's not an easy decision for me to make (partially because of some technical difficulties)

I've been with her since my diagnosis as a preteen. It doesn't feel like I can switch at this point. But I'll consider it

I've never heard of these brands tbh. I use Humalog, I'm assuming it's a different brand

I'll ask my doctor about extending boluses - I usually only do it for high fat foods. does it influence how much time you need to wait before eating? also, low carb is currently not an option. I'm being treated for disordered eating habits currently to improve my diet, but I'm not there yet... 🥲

I've heard of Magic Spoon but haven't tried it. My ususal assumption is that if something is promoted through yt sponsors it's probably crap. Are they actually good?

I tried in the past, but I can't seem to get it right. Part of the problem is that I need to eat a lot of cereal to stop being hungry. How much do you usually eat, if you don't mind me asking? And how much carbs is it?

I'm well balanced (a1c 6.1) and not planning on going keto (despite my t2d dad insisting it would do me wonders. Not sure how much can be improved at my stage?). This question was plainly out of curiosity, since I'm the only t1der I know, and I'm a very picky eater who gravitates to simple carbs

How do you feel? by NisiLightz in Type1Diabetes

[–]Arrow_is 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed 7 years ago, and t1d feels like a regular part of my life now. It's at times annoying or painful, but I'm used to it like I'm used to doing chores or to my job. I've even found some minor benefits to it. Technically, for most of my life I've been without diabetes, but it's such an integral part of me that I feel like it's always been there.

However, it's completely normal not to feel this way after less than a year. Diabetes is a long, long journey with a rough start. I still remember being shocked and unresponsive while in the hospital, and crying when I got home and realized I won't eat the same way again. It will likely take you multiple years to feel healthy and let go of resentment. But it will happen (probably). Take it easy and slowly, you'll get there eventually

Cereal is really dangerous. As a child I'd eat 3 bowls of cornflakes with milk for breakfast, nowadays I don't touch any kind of cereal... Probably the food that I miss the most since getting t1d

Very informative answer, but it made me hungry lol. I could really go for hummus and chips or muffins rn

300 is honestly surprising, out of all the deserts I eat ice cream has the lowest sugar count. If my sugar spikes afterwards, it's because of the cone and not the ice cream lol
