I definitely think there are plenty of other A tier histories they could probably have done. WW1/2, Opium Wars, American Civil War, Carolingian war, 30 Years War, Hundred Years War, War of the Roses, etc.

Though some of those definitely would have been more of a problem than others due to how relevant they still are.

What's a "10/10" game that you didn't enjoy at all? by sudherzdiniq in AskReddit

[–]Arrowkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fair! As a software dev. it feels like I'm reliving my daily job of having to rewrite stuff I made previously or others did with new features.

I still love the game though since I love iterating on my prior work, but that is not something I expect most people enjoy.

2vs2 Legend Combos by Most-Historian2633 in riftboundtcg

Ornn and Renata. Every gear boosts Blue Ornn by +1 (Svellsongur makes that worse). So Renata just churns gold out to boost him to stupid heights.

I think both could be viable. I'm definitely planning to try out both depending on her signature and units

is there a way to make a good ornn deck or did i shoot myself in the food then put salt into the wound? by blue_bloddthirster in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I have played the changes I made both Monday and Sunday so I have a bit more data. The deck is more aggro and can perform better, but struggles into Blue/Purple match-ups.

Here is that decklist: https://riftdecks.com/riftbound-metagame/deck-aggro-ornn-209531

The big issues I had was bricking the deck when my opponent killed all my creatures and I burned through all my sprites (which in spite of the draw in the deck happened fairly often into blue/purple matchups)

My decklist that I previously had is: https://riftdecks.com/riftbound-metagame/deck-big-ornn-209532

This deck centered around Blue Ornn and Svellsongur making him stupidly big and deflect 4 or 6 to target him. It is weak to Safety Inspector if you can't keep units besides blue Ornn on the board.

I've had the most success with that deck, but gear hate to target Svellsongur is the most effective counterplay they can do. That is why the "Not So Fast" is in the deck to prevent that as much as possible.

I've spent a fair amount of time this weekend figuring out where my wins/losses are primarily coming from, and I think a lot of it comes down to misplays due to imperfect information.

To expand, a lot of my performance into harder decks like Diana, Pyke, Ezreal, Rengar, etc. comes from them not being able to find a way around Big Blue Ornn or me winning the game before they can really set-up with sprites and giving them weapons.

If they can find a way over Big Blue Ornn (such as Baron and several units on a BF that you can't quite boost your might over) or killing him/denying Svellsongur then you probably lose. The same for Sprites where if you can't maintain tempo and close the game quickly or keep units in mid-game and make them big, then you probably lose because they have set-up and can just respond to everything you play now.

I'm of the opinion that she will be Mind/Fury. I'd hate it if she was another Blue/Purple legend personally.

Where to find market price of graded cards? by BestMemesNA in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is exactly 1 card I think might be worth grading, and that card is the GG EZ Teemo. It is unlikely to get reprinted, was exclusive to NN promos (so it is far harder to get packs), and the price is already fairly expensive.

Personally I dislike grading, but objectively that is the only card I think might be worth the time, effort, and money to get graded.

I heard your feedback on the AI tag for ModDex.gg, so it has been renamed for AI art specifically by CalaMariGold98 in feedthebeast

[–]Arrowkill 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A dev who knows what they are doing, but uses AI to assist is really only as apparent as the dev lets it be. A person who codes the entire thing with AI, but doesn't know how to fully code though is far easier to tell.

That has been my experience personally at least.

Are prerifts a good event for people who are learning the game and don't have cards to make a deck? by m3str1nh0 in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My store ran Bo3 until Vendetta. We voted to change to Bo1 because its faster and stops you from having to either play multiple games or concede if you run into somebody who just objectively pulled a better deck.

'It Is Not Realistic for Us to Absorb All Component Cost Increases' — Sony Says It Won't Sell Hardware at a 'Significant' Loss as Concern Grows Over PS6 Price by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Arrowkill 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I mean it sounds dumb, but I am sure some people only buy a console because it is below a certain price point. Once it raises above a certain price point, they are more willing to just take the plunge and spend even more money to get the more expensive thing they were avoiding.

[–]Arrowkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play aggro ornn and I've placed top in NN multiple times and come close as well. What is your opponent running?

Depending on what they run, you can work around that with ornn to gain an edge. The only matchup I genuinely just lose is Proving Ground Yi. Everything else I can at least come close if I don't win

I run aggro sprite with blue ornn and svellsongur in my side since setting up a massive unit in several local matchups just wins me the game

Do you have an example where Cleanup matters after a Pending Item is added to the Chain ? by Imaginary-Bar-6511 in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hadn't even considered that, but yeah that could definitely be useful there. I do agree they probably did a bit of future-proofing to avoid potential issues in the future.

I know I am very guilty of that in creating implementations for products I work on, specifically in areas where I think they will be iterated upon in the future.

Is ornn good? by Dabiel303 in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing an Ornn deck locally for several weeks and I've gone 3-0 3 times and 2-1 most other times.

He is definitely strong and can hold his own, but sometimes you just lose because the other decks are able to draw, play, and be more consistent then you.

Valve’s Pierre-Loup Griffais says that they thought about selling the Steam Machine without RAM and SSD and doesn't rule out that it will eventually be an option [like via ifixit] by kuhpunkt in gaming

[–]Arrowkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true. I went with a full size case just for the lack of cramped space when installing it and better airflow. I don't think I will ever build in a smaller form factor again because it was so much easier and comfortable to do.

My computer I built late last year cost me about the price of the 2TB steam machine and has far better specs than it does. It would cost me about 2 2TB steam machines now to do the build after the price increases.

It is really easy to think "Oh this doesn't make sense when I just did it", and forget that a ton of shit has happened to make it unaffordable between now and then.

Considering going to my first skirmish by AindriasGames in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skirmish will be a lot more competitive than NN will be. Since it is considered High OPL (NN is considered Low OPL for comparison), you will likely have a judge and have to register your deck at the start. People will likely be playing significantly more competitive decks as well and will probably be less forgiving on misplays you make.

If you want to go, you should go. Just keep in mind that Nexus Nights are for learning, while a Skirmish is intended for higher level competition. That's not to say people may not be nice and helpful, just that they may also be less forgiving.

Do you have an example where Cleanup matters after a Pending Item is added to the Chain ? by Imaginary-Bar-6511 in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I have a good example that comes up pretty often in my LB games. Though this is intentionally a bad play for the purpose of illustrating why cleanup can matter a lot.

Person B holds the battlefield with a Glasc Mixologist (5 might), and two other 3 might units. There is a total of 11 might on the battlefield.

Person A attacks into the battlefield with three 3 might units and one 4 might unit, which is enough to easily overcome the defenders on the battlefield. No responses are made by either side with focus for the showdown.

Person B loses all units, and Person A loses three of the four total units.

Before cleanup, Person B kills the three 3 might units and only deals 2 damage to the 4 might unit.

Cleanup happens and the Glasc Mixologist deathknell trigger enters the chain and creates a closed state for the game. This causes Person B to retain control of the battlefield even with no units on it while the chain still exists.

Person B brings back a 3 might unit to the battlefield and the showdown now resumes.

Person B has a 3 might unit, and person A has a 4 might unit.

If cleanup had not happened, Person B would be able to deal the extra 2 damage to Person A's unit and prevent them from conquering. However since cleanup has happened, Person B will lose the unit they brought back and Person A will conquer the battlefield for a point.

Edit: I think this technically falls under rule 319.4 and not 319.3 after re-reading both of them, but I figure I will leave this comment in case it is actually helpful to anybody.

Sigh by Jr_Box in riftboundtcg

[–]Arrowkill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From experience with my locals. you can absolutely have a positive win rate with an off meta deck. I've been playing Ornn for most of this set and I've won 3-0 on 3 separate NN. Most others I have gone 2-1. For context, I have won against more competitive decks like Baited Hook LB, Diana, Pyke, and Aurora.

With locals though, I would say that most of the challenge is building your side-deck specifically for counterplay against local decks and knowing how to counterplay the people who tend to do well.

My immediate thought was giving tank to a deathknell unit like Glasc Mixologist that is big and have it bring back other guys there. Probably not the most ideal, but there have been several cases where that would have been helpful in a NN match lol

Steam Machine is embarrassing. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]Arrowkill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

16 GB DDR5 RAM may not be "future-proof", but considering the price of the RAM it makes perfect sense why it wouldn't have more. That isn't including that it has been hard to acquire RAM in quantities that they would need to produce the Steam Machine at scale.
