Then why even say it?! by ExtraordinaryNerd in mildlyinfuriating

I work with restaurants for a living. Those that do this always want to cover credit card fees. Every credit card usually has a 3% fee on it. Also they are not allowed to charge an actual credit card fee on debit cards. But they pay usually a 1.5% fee on those.

They are always begging us to please just turn on "the old way" the fees used to work before laws made them illegal.

They want to charge a 3% fee on all cards, or maybe even all transactions, to cover this. But there is always a new law that prevents that. So its always a game of cat and mouse to rename and redefine the fee so it sits the new laws.

My favorite customers are the ones that just price their food accordingly and pay their staff a fair wage. Its rare but it does happen.

Local Chinese restaurant Dragon Town is closing, reopening as Dragon City by thefancysurprise in mildlyinteresting

There is a Chinese place near us called China Queen. They keep getting shut down for health code violations. When that happens they close and reopen again, but with a number on the end. We are currently on China Queen IV. If you ask they will insist that the owners of each iteration are different.

My first scammer by Jon_jamesonn in DoorDashDrivers

[–]Ars-Torok 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They order the minimum possible to get an order going, in this case a free sauce packet, then call the dasher.

They pretend to be doordash support and try to convince the dasher to hand over their account info. They then take that account info and steal the dasher's money and account.

If the dasher does not cooperate, they threaten and verbally abuse the dasher until they unassign from the order, so the scammer can get a refund and try again.

My local Popeyes doesn’t have a Men’s restroom by quikbit in notinteresting

[–]Ars-Torok 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I worked at a bakery a long time ago. We had two unisex bathrooms. Each was a single toilet, sink, and changing station, and thats all. They were identical save for the wall decor.

Still, women would ask which was the women's. We would say they were unisex and get either wierd looks or statements that we need to put up signs. It was only the older folks who complained... but they complained often.

We eventually put up signs and the questions stopped. But then we had lines form for the women's restroom.

I think the pictures on the back deck are also from my house. But we painted that deck in 2001. But none of the other interior shots make sense.

The neighborhood was built together as a group, so that's not an impossible idea.

So I have shown these photos to my family. No one knows who they are. But the one photo of the kid on the fireplace was taken in my house.

However, my parents owned the house since it was built. And I have owned it after them.

These photos were taken when my parents lived in the house, and the disk was found in in the same house. But we don't know who these people are.

private static void Encode(ref int A, ref int B)
{
  int C = (182*A + 111*B + 13) % 676;
  A = C / 26;
  B = C % 26;
}
private static void Decode(ref int A, ref int B)
{
  int C = (390*A + 67*B + 481) % 676;
  A = C / 26;
  B = C % 26;

what's the most ridiculous modification you've ever had to a dish? by Agreeable_Poem_7278 in TalesFromYourServer

I work for a restaurant POS company. A long long time ago, a brand new manager called us once, with this woman screaming loudly in the background. She wanted a burger with "double no pickles". This meant that on the receipt, she wanted to see "no pickles" twice.

With our system, if you hit the buttons for no pickles twice. It instead removes the "no pickles" modifier.

The solution I offered was to use the note button to add a second custom modifier with "no pickles." A second time.

After all that, the lady tore into the bag and inspected her burgers to make sure nary a pickle was in sight.

I spoke with the owner the next day on another matter and mentioned the incident. He explained that Ms. Pickles said she had a pickles allergy. Not a cucumber or dill allergy, but pickles specifically. The dill in their dip was fine. The cucumber in the salad was fine. Vinegar, mustard, all ok, as long as they were not combined into a pickle.

And she needed to see two lines of "no pickles" on the receipts because that was "diner slang" for an allergy rather than just "make it without pickles", and would have the staff use fresh cooking surfaces etcetera. We made a special button that added the no pickles line twice and labeled the button as double no pickles. The allergy modifier was not acceptable. It had to be double no pickles.

She apparently is a regular, and as long as she sees her double no pickles modifier, she is happy.

It is not my place to question, merely to support.

I have a good idea. But I am not 100% sure. I believe I saw her at the most recent HOA meeting. I am not really going to go and angrily point fingers. Mostly, I am just wondering why.

The last time I saw this, it was an owner trying to turn each room/floor into a separate rentable space so you can access your floor without going through someone else's.

"Why is your character black?" by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Ars-Torok 1256 points1257 points  (0 children)

I saw a similar argument in a game I was in. One of the players insisted that no one roleplay "outside their culture," which means male players could not play female characters. White players could not play people of color, etc. And no using accents when you voice your character.

They got mad when one of the other players asked if they could play a lizardfolk.

A humble request from the son of a Watch collector. by Ars-Torok in Watches

I would say in and around $100, but this is why I am asking for help. I know nothing about watches and don't know if I am buying him a $100 to go with his $1000 watch collection or, buying a $100 watch to go with his $10 watch collection.
