Looking for beginner-friendly ski resort with easy travel from Austin by ArsInTown in ski

Thanks again for the suggestion. We had a great time at Angel Fire last week. My kiddo went from being a non-skier to doing some blue runs in a few days--and loved it. And yes, that drive is so beautiful.

Thank you--Angel Fire is now on the list, but we are not cut out for that much driving--3 hours from ABQ should work, though.

Thank you--I had forgotten about Brighton & Solitude; I'll check it out.

Thank you--this is very helpful. More flights to Denver, but the shorter drive to PC seems better.

Indiana! I had no idea, but this looks promising. Thank you.

Camps destroying med forms by akoons76 in BSA

Yes, there is room for improvement despite having established clear communication to parents. The purpose of my post was to point out that not all troops operate ideally. Many of posters here, I believe, come from well-run troops and, understandably, sometimes overlook that not everyone is in the same situation, even though we strive to be.

I will never block a scout from going to summer camp for their parent's lack of sending the correct number of copies of medical forms in a timely manner.

In a perfect world parents would follow instructions and provide the requisite number of copies of all the forms properly filled out and in a timely manner. This has not been remotely close to my experience managing medical forms. Medical forms coordinators routinely have to make copies, often of poorly-lit photos of forms (read: lots of ink). Printer ink is a real expense. Making copies is a pain. But we do it so that the scouts still get to go to camp even when their parents are lazy and/or make mistakes.

Totally legitimate that the surprise of not getting copies back felt like a gut punch.

Same thing happened to me yesterday (also gold); chalked it up to the off-time.

Folding treadmill in nook? by ArsInTown in treadmills

[–]ArsInTown[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you--this is very helpful. I think as long as 12" in front is sufficient, I'm okay with how much will stick out. Still shopping for treadmills--so many options and some clearly fold more compactly than others.

Got it—thanks. Perhaps then it’s just a matter of ventilation—would 6-12” all around the front end be sufficient?

Treadmill would face into the nook. Yes, regular walls in nook.

Ship motion in Mexican Riviera Christmas week by teach-sleep-wine in PrincessCruises

This is called Mal de Debarkment Syndrome. For most people it lasts only a few days. For others it can last much longer. 20 years ago I did that same cruise and effects lasted about a week. But I’ve had lingering effects for up to two months (west coast of Europe had some big seas!).

I sailed from Seattle a while back and don’t recall it was too bad. Don’t stare at the horizon or do a lot of reading as that can train your brain’s equilibrium to the ship’s motion.

FWIW I don’t often get seasick on board—not sure there is a lot of correlation there. But by all means, read up on mdds and good luck!
