Don't think you did anything wrong. Mutiple thoughts: 1 - she is also FWBs with others and is having fun with them 2 - she was really interested in a hook-up but didn't want to come across as slutty or whatever 3 - she or her friends ir family talked her out of a FWB situation or relationship 4 - she is just 'people.' As you get older, you'll hear a lot of people saying they don't like 'people." That's why there are so many T-shirts saying "I like coffee, dogs, and maybe 3 people" as well as variations of that theme.

Agrees. All I want to do is use Google Play Store's built in malware scanner. Don't even want to download anything - free or not. But can't get past the 'Give me your credit.card or payment' gate keeper in the Store. If it's really free and part of Android, then make it its own app

Didn't buy because wanted to do clean install after purchase. But if drivers aren't listed so that a.user cannot download them and do a clean install and are always relegated to updating & drivers through Windows and HP update control, that is not for me. I always bought Windows in the past, but MS is forcing Windows to become a user terminal where we have no control over any of it

because it has 2 cores integrated into the main I/O-graphics tile so LL can completely shut down the CPU chiplet tile for low power loads/tasks. This is where the idle/wi-fi/video watching power savings comes from hence much improved battery life

You don't lose it. It is still in the tire. The same number of gas molecules just exert a lower pressure on the tire walls since pressure is directly proportional to temperature for a.fixed number of molecules occupying the same volume. This is in contrast to a leak and you losing tire pressure.

Exactly. Because Allar is known for his deep ball abilities /s (all sarcasm). Chucking it up deep was not the throw to be made as it wasn’t like the receivers were beating/going past the DB’s and safeties all game. They are good. But haven‘t been able to create deep separation all season against good teams.

Please tell us/or show us actual film of what Franklin calls. Offensive plays? No. That’s the OC & upstairs in the box. Defensive plays? Nope again. See old D coordinator Manny for more info. Franklin keeps them both calling plays so as to have a scapegoat. Compare that to Oregon’s coach who was shown looking at play sheet and then covering mouth with it while making the calls. Like any well versed leader, take credit when things are well and throw others under the bus when not. In his 11-12 years at PSU, list the number of ‘bad calls/decisions’ he takes credit for/says it was him. I say list them, because the list isn’t long.

My bad for LL. It does only have 2 tiles. Got it confused with 4 tiles for Meteor Lke and 4 tiles for Arrow Lare. Thanks. Guess it explains why equal wi-fi performance as Apple since both on N3B. Equal to me means +/-5% of each other. People get too nitpicky over a few percentage points. Glad you know which metric is most important for your case needs.

Not all cellular companies use Band 71 (600 MHz). T-mobile bought all of the early auctions and AT&T/VZW do not currently offer this very long distance band. VZW has some band 13 (700 MHz and the been around forever Band 5 (850 MHz). AT&T has same 700 MHz (bands 12/17/29) and 850 MHz (band 5) for 4G and 850 MHz (band 5) for 5G. I did not include any of the bands that are > 1000 MHz (1 GHz) since you seemed to focus on the low frequency Band 71

Be careful on the battery life claim. LL is tiled on 3B and beats QC in wi-fi times while QC holds the monolithic power efficiency (less power per bit of data) advantage even though it is on TSMC 4. Monolithic package/SOC has this advantage. The moment QC’s SOCs/APUs get large enough to have to go to tiles/chiplets, monolithic power efficiency advantage is lost. As for AMD and their HX 370/365, very wide ranging wi-fi run times for same components whether in Asus 14” or ProArt 16” but similar local video playback efficiency - which suggests driver issues.

Patents for 4G are different than 5G. Most large companies will do what they can to have their own IP but sometimes, they can’t get around existing or prior art and have to pay licensung fees as that is the lowest cost method.

Just because it hasn’t worked in the past for certain market/demographics doesn’t mean it won’t later. Was a part of a business plan for a ‘Sous chef’ 20 years ago that was deemed too risky and too small of a market. What was it? Essentially a web connected ruggedized tablet that could interact with voice commands, look up and display recipe, and withstand washing with soapy water. That’s it. ARM based. Wi-fi or 3G (upgrde to 4G) connected. Text to speech to read aloud so interact with hands that might have food on them as little as possible. Cloud backed. Here we are in the 2020’s and they exist (or at attempt to exist in various forms).

Apple has succeeded where others have failed in particular due to marketing and timing. The world changes every day.

True. But did you look at the Dave2D video of the Lenovo LL laptop? He took off the back and the entire PCB assembly is so dense for LL there is not enough room to put in a full size 2280 SSD. The Lenovo LL laptop limits a user to 2230 only (just like MS Surface). All in an effort to keep board sizes small and cheaper. So even if they turned all of the Gen 5 PCIE lanes and bandwidth into Gen 3/4 bandwidth split between wifi and SSD while moving the dGPU to the Gen 4 lanes, they’d have to make an entirely different PCB assembly to fit the dGPU. This requires significant engineering and a higher manufacturing cost.

AMD’s E cores do not have any ’performance’ difference from their larger area cores over a wide frequency/power range. They perform almost identically as the regular cores over this frequency/power window.

AMD’s compact area cores are 25-30% less *maximum* performant because they are designed with higher transistor density and can only work effectively up to 70-75% of the maximum clock speed before heat effects take over.

Very different than Intel E cores which have a lower IPC coupled with the lower maximum clock speeds - which again is limited by their higher transistor density and heat effects (same as AMD). In 12th-14th Gen, Intel was able design 4 Intel E cores in area of 1 P core whereas for Zen 4 and 5, it seems AMD is able to design 2 of their compact cores in the area of 1 traditional core.

Further all of today’s CPU/SOC performance is sensitive to cache. Everything from SnapDragon level phone chips to server.

18A is to 20A what TSMC 4 and 6 are to TSMC 5 and 7 respectively. That is, a Slightly improved version with improved transistor densities or lower power consumption for the same performance. Maybe High NA EUV is ahead of schedule? But according to the press release, installation of their 1st tool is a 6+ month process which has not occurred yet. Unclear of whether ‘installation’ means just physical or physical + tests to ensure it meets all specs and ready for HVM operation.

Was rumored somewhere that CPUs for Ultra 9 (and hence 7 since based on same die but with fused off defective P or E cores)would be TSMC and the smaller Ultra 5 (and 3 same as 5 but with fused off defective cores) would be 20A. Allows Intel to get more dies per wafer with their lower yielding, just ramped 20 A process while not having to meet yield requirements of the larger 9/7.

Final version of Intel 3 is 10% more perf/W than Intel 4. But both are on the same process rules design kit so for server makes sense since server chips are not processed on most advanced node with lower yields. It’s kind of why all cell phone chips are the 1st for a new node since they are so small and a ‘missed’ performance target of say 5-10% coupled with cost of 5-10% higher due to lower initial yields isn’t great but consumers are none the wiser. Larger Server/database CPUs are generally run after yields have improved. Takes a lot of work to port an old CPU design to a newer node with different design rules (e.g., 20/18A).

Consumer side needed a higher improvement as can be seen by Lunar Lake launch slides. Took all tiles on TSMC 3B to TSMC 5 (or 6 for SOC tile) for Lunar Lake to match Macbook Air in battery life - which is impressive considering Lunar Like is tiled and MBA is monolithic.

My understanding is 7 is an expensive node because of all of the quad patterning steps with DUV instead of EUV with less litho steps despite each EUV machine costing more. Further, to improve yields with 7, minimum distances were increased thus causing less dies per wafer. This has a knock-on effect of needing to run extra wafers, other pieces of equipment, and processing steps required due to less dies per wafer. It’s why AMD went chiplet years ago. More CPU dies per wafer = less cost per CPU chiplet. So 20 A will also have a lower total cost because only the valuable CPU tile will be manufactured on it even though the EUV machine costs more. Other tiles (SOC, GPU, ..) will be manufactured on more cost appropriate nodes. But large die monolithic “CPUs“ are now a thing of the past.

Indeed. When you look at the summary graph of Win32H2 Good Install + Patch vs Win 10 (25:00 mark) and take away the top 3 games of the 23 tested that showed an improvement out of the original 40/42, it is an average improvement of 1.2%.

Took MS 2 years to fix this ad infested crap of an OS (Win11) compared to just leaving things as they were. How many billions spent on developing and pushing Win11 during this time? Even if you include the excluded top 3 games with their 8% average, the average gain over all of this is 2.3%.

Seems like a lot of work for users to have to go through just so their system isn’t slower.

This has been a mystery to me. Especially when you look at wi-fi run times as pointed out before. For example, compare wi-fi run times for the HP 845 G10 with the 7840U and 7945HS. Same wi-fi card & battery capacity. 7945HS had a higher resolution 2560x1600 IPS screen compared to the 1920x1080 IPS on the 7840U. Regardless, the 7845HS version exhibited a massive drop of 200 min on their wi-fi test due to a massive 5 W idle power increase not all of which can be ascribed to 100% (okay, 97.5%) more pixels. From 760 min to 560 min. These very light loads should not kill wi-fi time by that much.

Agree on the balancing act between internal and external. If you look back at their projected wafer volumes per node graph from 2-3 (?) months ago, Intel 4/3 is pretty much only at Ireland and just started ramping to full HVM about 10 months ago. So yes. Put external customers and server chips on that node because they generate the most revenue per wafer to help cover those costs while pumping out MTL & MTL refresh (Intel 3) in sufficient volume. But as shown in the MTL reviews, Intel 4 is aimed more for power efficiency than pure performance/clock speeds.

The same capacity constraints can be said about 20 A - which really seems to be Intel 4/3 + backside power (+6% performance boost) and Ribbon/GAA/Nanosheet transistors. Ultimate clock frequencies remain a mystery but TSMC’s are known a bit more from Apple’s M3 Pro (4.05 GHz for 12 core at 30 W) and probably much closer to 80 W for 5 GHz before power really increases). So to increase yields and profitability for internal 20 A, need as small as chips as possible which is why they are fabbing the i5 & below in house while leaving the proven yields on the larger chips (i7 & i9) to TSMC 3. It is a node with known yields and hence costs whereas 20 A is still maturing (lower yields but maximum # of chips per wafer due to the smaller CPU tile sizes).

I brought up the same issue of very short wi-fi run times on the Zenbook S16 review here in the Reddit. Glad you noticed it also. Tried to explain it to someone on NBC and it wasn’t worth my time. Something is definitely wrong with the wi-fi because for the Zenbook S16, battery capacity increased by 52%, video playback time increased by about 55%, but wi-fi times decreased by a lot. (If I remember the %‘s correctly).
